The Ghost Riders Motorcycle Club of Avery County was founded on June 1, 1973. Most of its founding members were local boys from Elk Park and Crossnore graduating from Avery County High School class of 1973. The first Avery Chapter mostly partied with the Mother Chapter in Johnson City, TN, and so did the Unicoi, TN Chapter. Avery and Unicoi were dry counties in those days. All three chapters parti
ed with the Peacemakers from Kingsport, TN. Peaceful Few and Black Diamonds from Newport, TN. Henchman from Abington, VA. Inactivity struck GRMC Avery in the winter of 1974 and we had a slow start in the spring of 1975. Toker, was the only Avery member to make the Mother Chapter's Anniversary Party in May 1975. Chief pulled Avery's charter, and gave Toker six months to get it revived. Unable to pick up new members, Toker transferred to Johnson City January 1, 1976 where he was a member for thirty-seven years. In October 2010 at the National Meeting Toker, and a different group of members, applied for a new charter ship. On February 1, 2011 GRMC Avery was recharted,
