Every client who attends Yellow Mountain Enterprises is gainfully employed for part of the day. Not a program activity. A job, with a choice in what that job looks like.

Some clients also work outside the program entirely, with support from job coaching and supported employment.

Real work, on-site or off. That's the point.

Independence looks like a lot of small things done well.

Our Independent Living Skills program helps clients build real-world skills: personal grooming and hygiene, cooking, household chores, social interactions, and managing personal finances. A grant from the NC Department of Transportation helps us provide transportation to and from work for clients who need it.

It's the kind of support that doesn't make headlines, but it's what makes independence possible.

The Treasure Box will celebrate its grand reopening after undergoing repairs necessitated by a recent car accident. This event marks a significant milestone in restoring the facility to its original condition and welcoming back the community. There will be sales and drawing held throughout the day.

That's how Avery Association for Exceptional Citizens started. This year marks 50 years of running a day program, a group home, and now a growing independent living service, all still headquartered right here in Avery County.
