We are currently in need of registered dog walking volunteers after 12:00 PM. Even if you only have a few minutes to spare, taking one of our furry friends out for a walk makes a huge difference in their day.

A short walk provides exercise, enrichment, and much-needed one-on-one time for our dogs while helping our staff care for everyone in the shelter.

If you're available after noon and would like to brighten a shelter dog's day, we would greatly appreciate your help. Every step, every tail wag, and every minute spent with them means so much.

UPDATE "Marvin Marshmallow": Ozzy (Marvin) is great! He loves to play with just about any toy, but especially balls on the stairs. He gets the zoomies every night around 10 pm when he runs and screams. He also loves to travel to his gramma’s house in Nashville where he gets to watch birds at a feeder from a window. He is a great snuggler and prefers to doze on someone’s lap! He wishes his sister Coco (also adopted from ACHS) would play with him more often!

Rummy is a talkative little guy who loves being part of the fun! He’d much rather wrestle and play with friends than chase toys by himself, and after a big play session he’s happiest cuddled up with his siblings for a nap.

📣Make sure to know what pet you are more suited for before just buying a souvenir hermit crab and so on.

"A friendly PSA about hermit crabs because of the upcoming carnivals: they are notoriously one of the most abused and neglected pets because people do not educate themselves! They are advertised as an *easy beginner* pet but they are anything but that. They require very specific temperature and humidity levels and complex diets! They also require 6-8 inches of sand to burrow and tunnel and properly molt, both salt water and fresh water pools deep enough to submerge in, and plenty of enrichment such as things to climb on and AT LEAST 10 gallons of space per crab. Painted shells are toxic to them, wire metal mesh cages are toxic to them and it’s impossible to maintain temperature and humidity, water sponges are toxic and harbor bacteria. If you or your child are interested in bringing one home from the carnival, just be aware that they’ve already gone through a lot of stress and are already slowly dying because of the inhumane conditions they are always kept in. Please please please educate yourselves and know that these tiny creatures deserve the best care also!!! It is a very expensive hobby to start up!!"
