The FOJRL would like to thank the campers that came out to the events held this past weekend in the campground. Even though the weather was not the best, the kids enjoyed the color run. The hayride and s’mores is an annual tradition to close out the weekend. Check the calendar for more upcoming summer events.

Recently Zane Pope, Boy Scout from Keyser Troop 27, worked on his Eagle Scout project at Jennings Randolph Lake. His project included making a frame for a new sign that will be installed at the 3D archery course and building and installing new bow holders. Zane also generously made a donation to the Friends of Jennings Randolph Lake.

In the picture from L-R are JRL park ranger Joshua Corbin, Zane Pope and Bill Donnellan accepting the check.

It was another amazing Labor Day weekend at JRL. The campground was full this weekend and the Friends Group and Ranger staff hosted some great activities for campers and visitors. The craft program included a walking stick activity where you could select your hiking stick and decorate it. Always something handy to have when hiking the five miles of trails that are available in the park.

A favorite of many is the wagon ride through the park and smores afterwards. We had 93 people take part this weekend. Dave Fredrick gave an exceptional presentation on archeology finds in our area. We ended Saturday evening with a family movie at the pavilion.

Sunday was a fun packed day. We started with the color run, which is becoming a favored event for our campers and kids especially. Next year we look forward to expanding the run. So stay tuned! Next was another favorite, especially for our judges, was the camp cook off. We had two categories, savory and sweet, for kids and adults. Amazing food was turned in. We ended the evening with star gazing at the Mountain Meadow overlook. For those that came out, it was amazing. Beautiful, clear, cool night to view the amazing stars.

Thank you to all our amazing visitors and to all the volunteers who are dedicated to enhancing the visitors recreational experiences. We love creating memories for the families and visitors to Jennings Randolph Lake.

This past Saturday the FOJRL hosted the second archery tournament of the season at the Jennings Randolph Lake archery course, which is located in the campground area. 25 folks registered to participate. It was a great turnout and the shooters were very complimentary on the variety of targets and the layout of the course. We had some excellent shooters with only one point separating 2nd from 3rd place.

Trophies were given to the top three shooters. In 1st place Adam Simmons, 2nd place Brandon Dewitt and in 3rd place was Darrell Lockie. We had several young kids shoot the course as well. Ten prizes were also given out by raffle ticket. Food and refreshments were on sale by the Friends group. Shout out to the JRL Ranger staff and camp host Mike Krug for maintaining the course and constantly changing targets and being innovative in coming up with challenging shots.

This is the best 3D archery course in the area with 30 3D targets set in a wooded area. There are also several crossbow and people with disabilities accessible targets on a paved surface at the start of the course. Targets range from the standard deer to caribou, cobra, frog, hanging bat, alligator, to a suspended mountain lion.

The next tournament is September 6, registration starting at 8:30 am. The course is open daily until dusk. The cost is a $5 donation, or an individual season pass for $20 and a family season pass for $30. All proceeds go back into the maintenance of the course. Come check it out!
