Newberry YMCA Summer Camp Week 2! ☀️❤️🫶🏻

Week 2 of Summer Camp at the Newberry YMCA was packed with fun, friendship, and meaningful experiences! ☀️🌱💦

As our campers continue getting to know one another, we’ve loved watching new friendships grow and seeing everyone become more comfortable and confident each day. From sharing laughs during activities to working together as a team, our camp community is getting stronger every day!

This week, campers enjoyed a refreshing field trip to the splash pad, where they cooled off, played games, and made lasting memories. We also got our hands dirty as we began planting and caring for our summer camp garden. The campers are excited to watch their hard work grow throughout the summer!

Our older campers had a special opportunity to give back by volunteering at the senior center. They spent time helping, connecting with community members, and spreading kindness. We are so proud of their willingness to serve and make a positive impact.

We can’t wait to see what adventures Week 3 brings! 🌞❤️

Be a Water Watcher this summer. 🌊💙

When children are in or near water, the most important safety tool isn’t a phone—it’s your full attention. Put your phone down, keep your eyes up, and stay focused. Drowning can happen quickly and quietly, and active supervision saves lives.

Other important ways to help prevent drowning include:
🏊 Enrolling children in swim lessons at the Y to build confidence and skills in the water
👀 Designating a “Water Watcher” who is not distracted (no phones, books, or conversations)
🦺 Using life jackets when appropriate, especially in open water
🚪 Securing pools with proper barriers and gates
🤝 Staying within arm’s reach of young or inexperienced swimmers
