During our trip to Bernheim we enjoyed seeing the Heart of the Forest Tin Man, the gorgeous tree canopy walk and the mama giant, Loumari. Gorgeous Fall colors were starting to emerge, and the native flowers were still holding on! It was a perfect day, followed by a delicious meal at The Kitchen Table at the Jim Bean Distillery.

When we went on our Field Trip to Bernheim Forest last week, the guides said that they are predicting peak colors this year to be on or around October 31st. We encourage you to make plans to go next weekend! It is a fantastic destination for the whole family.

We were honored to take part in the First Annual Heritage Day at Freeman Lake Park on October 10th. The rain may have come, but volunteers were in good spirits and enjoyed talking to the community about the Lincoln Heritage House.

In addition to the Garden Club information table, our members were involved in lots of ways including: playing in the Dulcimer group, representing the Hardin County History Museum, and the Brown-Pusey House. Also, the garden club gave away packets of seeds gathered, packaged and labeled by members from our Lakeside Pollinator Gardens. If the harvested seeds are planted, our Hardin County pollinators wil be happy next year!

While we were at the Annual Dogwood District Meeting of The Garden Club of Kentucky, Inc., the new District Officers were installed. Our very own Lee Ann Caudill will be the new Vice Director! Congratulations! We are proud of you.

During a special memorial service, we took time to celebrate those we have lost over the past year. We are thankful for Karen and Jana—both of them are missed.

During the Awards Presentation we were able to recognize the many accomplishments of our club, along with the other 12 clubs in our district. Phyllis Dickerson gave her President’s Report and won FIRST Place—for her excellent report. We are thankful for her hard work and dedication to our club.

And last but not least, the Garden Club of Elizabethtown won the Standard Superior Club Award based on the many hours of community service, educational programs and gardening projects we did in 2025. Yay for us!

Members of the Garden Club Elizabethtown attended The 80th Annual Dogwood District Meeting of The Garden Club of Kentucky, Inc., in Louisville on October 7th, 2026. It began with the Board of Governors Meeting followed by the General Assembly. Our very own Lee Ann Caudill has served faithfully as the Dogwood District Secretary for the last two years.

Club members, Debbie Skaggs, Garden Club of Kentucky 2nd Vice President and Mary Beth Marcum, Dogwood District Representative to the State Headquarters, gave their reports. Phyllis Dickerson, Garden Club of Elizabethtown’s President, gave her President’s report highlighting the many programs, projects and events our club participates in throughout the year.

Attendees enjoyed visiting with gardeners from around the state, a silent auction and shopping! The guest speaker, Dr. Margaret Carreiro, presented a program on "The Serengeti In Your Garden: Sustaining Food Webs With Native Plants". We all left the meeting with new ideas and insights into the role gardeners can play in the overall health of the ecosystems all around us.

Every time our club gathers for our monthly meeting, club members volunteer to provide light refreshment and decor for our guests to enjoy. The volunteers change every month, but they always use their time and talent to make our gatherings a little more special. This month was no exception! Our hostesses understood the assignment—October has arrived.
