We're proud to work with the Village of Saranac Lake on this important initiative.
Two things I hear over and over from residents are (1) that it has become too expensive for working people to live here, and (2) that it is incredibly frustrating to see vacant or deteriorating homes in a community where housing is so difficult to find.
There isn't one simple solution to either problem. But I think part of our housing strategy needs to start with something pretty basic: taking better care of the housing we already have and helping year-round residents stay in their homes.
The Village is working with Adirondack Roots to pursue $450,000 in federal funding to repair existing single-family homes.
Anyone who owns a home knows that when major repairs get put off they don't get cheaper. Properties deteriorate, and eventually a home that could have remained part of our year-round housing supply becomes much harder to save.
