Domino to create a total arts school in the former McKee City School building in Egg Harbor Township. In January 1993 they approached Mayor Maria Bohle about the establishment of a Local Arts Agency (LAA), for the Township. Mayor Bohle embraced the idea and took the lead in bringing the LAA to life. Mayor Bohle champions the idea of Cygnus with the Egg Harbor Township Committee. The Township Commi
ttee endorsed the creation of a LAA. Upon gathering Township Committee support and approval, Mayor Bohle formed a LAA Board of Directors and filled the paperwork with the State of New Jersey to create the non-profit corporation. She served as the registered agent for Cygnus. After a year of development and the interest and support from the Mayor and the Egg Harbor Township Committee, Cygnus was incorporated as a nonprofit corporation on August 6, 1993. Once the non-profit was approved, the Township Committee entered into a formal lease for the utilization of the former McKee City school for Cygnus Creative Arts Centre, Inc. For the next 12 years, Cygnus continued to grow offering instruction in dance, art, drama, music, healing arts and martial arts. Under Artistic Director, Cynthia M. Domino the school outgrew its original home. In 2005, The Township of Egg Harbor invited Cygnus to be part of the proposed Township Community Center. In June 2008, Cygnus Creative Arts Centre moved into its new home. This building houses traditional and new classes, performances, workshops, and art shows. Cygnus continues to strive for quality in live long learning in the arts!
