Fred Long is a 19 year old coal miner from Edwardsville IL who died 128 years ago after being mortally wounded at the armed labor conflict at the Battle of Verden.

Thank you Graham Pezza for portraying Fred this year at Voices Of Our Past event.

Fred's gravesite is just left of the chapel in section 1. On Labor Day we unveiled a new historical marker that can now be seen next to Fred's headstone.

Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday to support Woodlawn Cemetery and join us for Voices of Our Past 2026.

This is an annual event and our only fundraiser that we do all year to help support the preservation, restoration, and initiatives at Woodlawn.

We truly hope to see everyone next year for Voices!
