One autumn afternoon, I saw the heartprints of God in the blowing of the leaves.
As I was sitting outside reading my Bible and soaking up some sun, a gust of wind caught my attention and made me look up.
Without any warning, leaves barely hanging onto branches were suddenly riding on currents of air while leaves recently fallen to the ground were now rolling and tumbling across the yard.
And as God is so faithful to do so much of the time, His Spirit started speaking to my heart.
As I watched the leaves, completely at the whim and the mercy of the wind, I saw with fresh eyes a picture of you and me as we walk out our Christian faith.
Just like the leaves, we too, if we are surrendered to the Spirit, are completely at the whim and the precious mercy of our God. We can't see Him. We have no idea when or where He may be moving, but we can definitely feel Him in our inner man - stirring us up, shifting our plans, sending us in new directions, uprooting and carrying us.
And unlike me (and maybe you, too), the leaves didn't fight the force of the wind. They didn't try to hold on tight to the tree. They didn't attempt to duck and dodge the gust of air so as not to be shuffled along. No. They simply went with it.
Peace is found in the surrender.
It's a spiritual lesson God keeps putting in front of me time and time again.
"The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” ~John 3:8
Gracious Heavenly Father, How faithful You are to take the things right in front of us and use them to teach us spiritual truth. How gracious You are to gently remind us. Thank you, Lord, for continuing to show us the way to peace, - true peace found only in our surrender to You. Forgive us for the times we fight to hold on to the familiar. Help us in faith to simply go with it - trusting You all along the way.~❤
