When I was a child, Halloween was one of my favorite holidays. Do you remember how excited we all were as kids?Let's take a time warp for a moment. For one night, we all got to dress up as just about anyone or anything we would like to be. A knight, a witch, a DINOSAUR! Wherever our costumes might lack authenticity, our imagination would make up the rest. The evening light is rapidly fading, and we gather with friends with huge smiles on our faces. The loot! Some of us would make trick-or-treating into a competition to see who could get the most candy. Will my pillowcase be enough? Without further ado, we are off! House after house, we were on an almost sacred quest to get the most candy possible. Some houses would even give an entire candy bar. Score! And then sometimes, you would get the dreaded apple. At the end of the evening, we would dump out all of our candy on the floor and count who won, after stuffing the three pieces of candy in our mouths that our mom let us have, and the one or two extra when she wasn't looking. Wow, what a night. Only 364 days till next Halloween! What makes Halloween so special? As adults, we have the chance to enjoy things like pumpkins and decorations, and we also get the chance to look at it from another angle. Do spirits roam more freely on October 31st? Maybe or maybe not. Astrologically speaking, this period lands within Scorpio, which represents transformation. As death and rebirth can be associated with spookiness, spiritually speaking, though, it is a period to let go of the past and embrace the new. There are many periods in the year that support us on our spiritual journey, like a train at a train station waiting to bring us to our next stop. Whether we get on the train is up to us.
