Thank you to everyone who drops their donations into the Mark's Short Stop change box!

Last week, we made a $200.00 donation to the Edmond History Museum, on behalf of our customers September donations.

Edmond History Museum is a free museum that saves and shares Edmond history for the community by offering a wide variety of programs, camps, and exhibits that frequently change.

Amy explained that whether you are a long-timer from Edmond, a newcomer, or a traveler you will find a story or artifact that interests you.

Thanks customers!

Amy Stephens will share her research about the cultural changes that resulted when Edmond became a Route 66 town. The 1920s decade saw dramatic changes in technology, fashion, and women’s rights, but none affected Edmond as much as the highway that would bring thousands of cars through town every day. Route 66 was responsible for tourists, business opportunities and societal changes that would help Edmond economically survive the coming recessions. Stephens relies on historic photos, entertaining stories, and the writings of A.D. Dailey, the longtime editor of The Edmond Sun to tell the story of Edmond’s Early Route 66.

Check out this printed souvenir advertising a 1919 silent film named "The Greatest Question!" It is on display in the "From Stage to Screen" exhibit. The shape indicates that it could be folded for use as a hand fan---which was popular in 1919, because theaters lacked air conditioning.
On October 6 of 1927, the first "talkie" movie premiered, named The Jazz Singer. It wasn't until 1929 that Edmond showed its first talkie film, named Speakeasy.
