Members of the Rio Grande Valley Detachment #1456 Marine Corps League Honor Guard had the privilege of rendering final military honors for an unaccompanied veteran. Although no family was present, our Marines stood in their place to ensure this veteran was remembered, respected, and honored with the dignity earned through military service.

Banquet Night at the 2026 Department of Texas Convention in San Marcos was a memorable evening of fellowship, recognition, and celebration. We enjoyed a great dinner while honoring the dedication and service of our members.
Congratulations to newly installed Department Officers Commandant Sean Downey, Adjutant/Paymaster Greg Sumner, and Sergeant-at-Arms Eddie Sanchez.
We wish them success as they lead the Department of Texas Marine Corps League in the coming year.

What a memorable and successful 2026 Department of Texas Convention in San Marcos! Congratulations to all award recipients and honorees. A special congratulations to Polo Garza for being named Recruiter of the Year, recognizing his dedication and commitment to strengthening our League. We are also proud that our Americanism Book earned 1st Place in Category 1, reflecting the outstanding efforts of our members throughout the year.

Congratulations as well to newly elected Department Commandant Sean Downey, re-elected Department Adjutant/Paymaster Greg Sumner, and newly elected Department Sergeant-at-Arms Eddie Sanchez. We wish them great success as they lead the Department of Texas Marine Corps League in the coming year.

06/13/2026 - Rio Grande Valley Detachment #1456 Marine Corps League Color Guard proudly presented the Colors for the Echoes of Service "A Run to Remember" 5K. 🇺🇸
Detachment members also participated in the event, joining the community in honoring our nation's heroes and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice. A meaningful day of patriotism, remembrance, and service. Semper Fidelis! 🇺🇸🫡

Day 1- 6/11/2026 – Department of Texas Convention 2026

Members of the Rio Grande Valley Detachment #1456 Marine Corps League proudly attended the opening day of the Department of Texas Marine Corps League Convention in San Marcos, Texas.

The convention provides an opportunity for Marines, FMF Corpsmen, Associates, and Auxiliary members from across Texas to come together in fellowship, share ideas, discuss the future of the Marine Corps League, and strengthen our commitment to serving veterans, youth, and our communities.

We look forward to a productive and successful convention while proudly representing the Rio Grande Valley and Detachment #1456.

The Pharr Police Department invites local veterans and their families to enjoy a special day at Veterans Aqua Reset on Saturday, June 27, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Veterans Memorial Park Aquatic Center (1000 S. Fir St., Pharr, TX 78577).

🎟️ Each veteran will receive admission for themselves plus up to 5 guests.
📋 Military/Veteran ID is required to receive tickets.
⚠️ Tickets are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Pharr Police Department (1900 S. Cage Blvd.).

Enjoy a morning of fun, relaxation, and community while connecting with fellow veterans and local veteran resource organizations.

Join the Texas VLB for an Unaccompanied Veteran Burial at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.

U.S. Navy Veteran Robert Joseph Ruggeri will be laid to rest on Thursday, June 11th, at 10:00 a.m.

Please help us spread the word, and if you have the opportunity, please come out and attend.

We will always ensure that no Veteran is buried alone.

6/8/2026 - Rio Grande Valley Detachment #1456 - Marine Corps League held a very successful June Monthly Meeting filled with fellowship, recognition, and celebration. We were honored to award scholarships to deserving recipients, recognize our Marine of the Year for outstanding dedication and service, and celebrate our June birthdays.
