Socktober is back, Edgerton! 🧦

Gifts For Kids is on a mission to fill their Socktober barrels this month, and they need our help. They're specifically looking for LITTLE KID socks, baby, toddler, and youth sizes, so if you've got a drawer of outgrown ones or want to grab a few new pairs, now's the time.

Six thousand people, a boy, a raccoon, and fifty years of Japanese television. We keep saying Edgerton is worth the drive, and this week the rest of the state started saying it for us.

Six thousand people, one raccoon, and an ambassador who flew in to see the house where it all happened. Friday was a good day for Edgerton, and it turns out the rest of the state thinks so too.

An ambassador, a library full of people, and a raccoon who's been famous in Japan since 1977.

Shigeo Yamada, Japan's Ambassador to the United States, spent Friday afternoon in Edgerton. He toured the Sterling North Museum and came to the Edgerton Public Library for a gift of 113 books from the Japan America Society of Wisconsin. Then the Society and the Sterling North Society announced the Rascal Trail, eleven Wisconsin stops for Japanese travelers, starting right here.

The Ambassador of Japan came to Edgerton on Friday.

Shigeo Yamada toured the Sterling North Museum, then came over to the Edgerton Public Library, where the room was full and stayed full. As far as anyone can tell, no sitting Japanese ambassador has ever visited our community before.

He came for a gift of 113 books about Japan, donated by the Japan America Society of Wisconsin for readers of every age. The Society is working to get a collection into all 16 of Wisconsin's library districts, and Edgerton is one of the first towns on the list.

If you're wondering why Edgerton, the answer is a raccoon. In 1977, Japanese animators came to Sterling North's house to research his book about a boy and his pet. The show they made, Araiguma Rascal, still airs in Japan almost fifty years later. For millions of Japanese kids, a farm outside Edgerton was their first picture of Wisconsin. Hundreds of them make the trip here every year as adults.

Friday the Japan America Society of Wisconsin and the Sterling North Museum announced the Rascal Trail, eleven stops across Wisconsin built for Japanese travelers, the first anime tourism trail in the country. Stop one is right here. RascalTrail.org

An ambassador walked through Sterling North's front door on Friday. Fifty years after Japanese animators did the same thing.

Edgerton's raccoon has gone further than any of us have. 🦝

Today, September 18, was a truly special day for the Sterling North Society, the Edgerton Public Library and Edgerton! The Ambassador of Japan to the United States, Shigeo Yamada, made a visit here. The Consul-General of Japan in Chicago, Yuichi Oba, accompanied him, along with aides and special guests. We were so honored to host them on their first stop in Edgerton.

The ambassador and his guests were given a private tour. They were so happy to see the house and hear about the life of Sterling North; the man behind the story of the Araguima Rascal anime series that they know from Japan.
