Do you have a kayak and/or are you free to come to the west side of Madison at 6pm Sunday? Message us! There is a sweet angel duck that was dumped in a retention pond earlier this summer we are hoping to rescue. We heard of him recently and have been out a couple times but this is going to be a more involved rescue than we originally planned for. We are coming to help you, little boy! Join us if you can!

Today is my (Quincy) 17th anniversary of not drinking/using dope. If you would’ve told 23 year old me where I’d be today I wouldn’t believe you. While I always had a sense of justice regarding non-human animals, I wasn’t open to connecting with them until I quit using. My own experiences are what I credit to immediately falling for what many see as the “least lovable”- roosters. It took all of 30 seconds meeting a rooster just over year into my non-using journey to begin creating the human I am today. Birds often aren’t intuitive, they’re complicated, they’re sure of who they are even at times they can’t fully express it. Having a clear mind and an open heart is what it took for me to realize who I truly am. Being a human that doesn’t drink beer or eat cheese in Wisconsin hasn’t been the easiest path but I would change nothing about it. While abstaining is what works best for me, I am a fierce proponent of harm reduction and someone 12 step programs did not work for. If you’re reading this and feel left out for similar reasons I did while navigating sobriety, or still feel navigating animal rights and the need to incorporate human rights as well, you are not alone. Am I rich? Nope. Am I what most folks would point to as a “successful” forty year old? Not really. But do I get to kiss the softest head of the sassiest turkey? Sure do. And that’s all I’ve ever wanted even when I didn’t know it.

Our final party thank you goes to the amazing, beautiful, smart, hilarious, perfect, hard workingest cutie this side of the Mississippi- Meagan!!! Who also happens to have a birthday today!!! Meagan has been our biggest source of donations for a couple of years now via her Mew’s Roos. She did all of the coordinating donations, planning, and decorating for our party and she also happens to be our favorite human being! You couldn’t find someone more generous with her time and resources if you spent a thousand years searching. The birds are so lucky to have Meagan as an aunt. We love you so much Meagan, the party was a success because of you. We are a success because of you! If you’re reading this, go buy the best cat toys from TacoCat - handmade potent catnip toys + accessories for cats! RIGHT NOW!!! If you need us, too bad, we are spending the rest of the day celebrating the birth of this human and eating delicious vegan food!!!

If you came to our party Saturday, we hope you snagged an awesome bracelet donated by slowerdrawings, a rad sticker designed by Heather Reilly and a coloring page or 2 or 10 made by Vim with Madison Makers Market! All the hanging signs, coloring pages and 10 year stickers were printed and donated by The UPS Store Fitchburg (Fitchburg) and The UPS Store Verona! So much work was put into our party to make it such a success!!! Next posts will be thanking our raffle donors and you better buckle up to see some extremely cute stuff.

So many people helped make our Saturday party a success - the sweets were donated by the wonderful Mickey with Heirloom Bakery & Kitchen and w***y street co-op! Our biggest donor for the birthday party was Justveggiez !! An all vegan, amazingly delicious restaurant in downtown Madison. We were in awe as owner James kept bringing in more and more homemade, beautiful food. They are participating in Black restaurant week THIS WEEK in Madison! Consider supporting them this week or any week you are able- James is well known in the vegan community for his kindness and generosity and you couldn’t find a more deserving place to spend your money.
