Star Legacy Foundation

Star Legacy Foundation Nonprofit dedicated to the prevention and care of pregnancy loss, stillbirth and neonatal death.

Who We Are
The Star Legacy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to stillbirth research and education. We are a community of parents, families, and friends of stillborn babies who are dedicated to reducing the number of families that endure such a needless tragedy. Star Legacy Foundation is headquartered in Minnesota with 8 Chapters across the United States. We Believe…
*Man

y stillbirths are preventable.
*Expectant parents should be informed about stillbirth risks and educated on ways to protect their pregnancy.
*Standard prenatal protocols should include a third trimester ultrasound to identify known stillbirth risk factors and subsequent management through home fetal monitoring when risk factors are identified.
*A national stillbirth registry should be created with mandatory participation to accurately collect stillbirth data.
*Stillbirth autopsies should be encouraged and performed consistently with established protocols.
*Stillborn children should be recognized with a certificate of birth.
*Families deserve and are entitled to support and guidance when facing the delivery of a stillborn child.
*Stillbirth, birth injury (cerebral palsy and others), premature birth and miscarriages may have some common denominators – finding answers to stillbirth may enlighten the path to reducing miscarriage, premature birth, and birth injury. The Star Legacy Foundation was created to honor the memory of precious children who live in the stars, but had an enormous impact on those of us here.

One of our loss moms shared something many grieving parents know too well: hearing comments like “it was God’s plan” or “everything happens for a reason” after the death of their baby can be deeply painful, even when they are meant with kindness.

She is struggling with how to respond when these words come from family, friends, and coworkers, especially at work where it can be so hard to regain focus after being caught off guard by hurtful comments.

If you have faced this too, what has helped you navigate these conversations? How do you protect your heart while responding to people who may not understand the impact of what they are saying?

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. Your words may help another parent feel less alone. 🤍🫶

After 24 years of military service, Dr. Tonge continues to support military families navigating pregnancy and infant loss, postpartum mental health, and pregnancy after loss with deep compassion and lived experience. In this episode, she shares the unique challenges military families face while grieving, the importance of showing up for one another, and why no family should have to navigate loss alone.
