Star Legacy Foundation

Star Legacy Foundation Nonprofit dedicated to the prevention and care of pregnancy loss, stillbirth and neonatal death.

Who We Are
The Star Legacy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to stillbirth research and education. We are a community of parents, families, and friends of stillborn babies who are dedicated to reducing the number of families that endure such a needless tragedy. Star Legacy Foundation is headquartered in Minnesota with 8 Chapters across the United States. We Believe…
*Man

y stillbirths are preventable.
*Expectant parents should be informed about stillbirth risks and educated on ways to protect their pregnancy.
*Standard prenatal protocols should include a third trimester ultrasound to identify known stillbirth risk factors and subsequent management through home fetal monitoring when risk factors are identified.
*A national stillbirth registry should be created with mandatory participation to accurately collect stillbirth data.
*Stillbirth autopsies should be encouraged and performed consistently with established protocols.
*Stillborn children should be recognized with a certificate of birth.
*Families deserve and are entitled to support and guidance when facing the delivery of a stillborn child.
*Stillbirth, birth injury (cerebral palsy and others), premature birth and miscarriages may have some common denominators – finding answers to stillbirth may enlighten the path to reducing miscarriage, premature birth, and birth injury. The Star Legacy Foundation was created to honor the memory of precious children who live in the stars, but had an enormous impact on those of us here.

To the dads who are grieving quietly, we see you.

When a baby dies, fathers can sometimes feel the pressure to be strong, support their partner, take care of their family, and keep moving forward.

But beneath that strength is a dad who lost his baby, too.
You may grieve differently than your partner. You may need different things. You may express your grief in ways others don’t recognize. None of that makes your grief any less real.

At the Star Legacy Foundation Family Summit, Mark Terjesen will create space to talk about the unique experience of fathers after perinatal loss, including ways to support yourself, connect with others who understand, and support your partner while carrying your own grief.
You don’t have to have the right words.
You don’t have to be the strong one all the time.
You are a grieving dad, and you deserve support, too.
We hope you’ll join us.

Join us.

Grief doesn’t have a look.

After the loss of a baby, grief can look different for everyone. Some may cry openly, while others may struggle to put their feelings into words. Some may need to talk about their baby often, while others may find comfort in quiet moments.

Today, on National Grief Awareness Day, we honor every family grieving the loss of a baby. No matter how long your baby was carried, they were loved, they mattered, and they will forever be carried in your heart.

If you or someone you love is grieving, you do not have to navigate it alone. Comment SUPPORT and we will send you a link to our free family support programs.

August 30, 2026 is International Bereaved Father’s Day.

Today, we pause to honor fathers who have experienced the heartbreaking loss of a child.

We recognize the dreams they carried for fatherhood and the moments they imagined sharing with their child. The first steps they will never see, the first sports game they will never cheer from the sidelines, the bike rides they will never teach, the birthdays they will never celebrate, and all the little moments in between.

We also understand that dads may grieve differently. Some may talk openly about their loss, while others may carry their grief quietly. Different does not mean their pain is any less.

We see you, dads. However fatherhood looks for you, please know you are not alone.

Send this post to someone you love to let them know you are thinking of them always.

💬 Comment FOR DADS below and we’ll send you resources created specifically for fathers, including our free virtual support group, a collection of dad-focused podcasts, and recommended readings.

Sometimes one of the hardest decisions after a loss is deciding whether to stay with your current provider or seek a new one.

We know there is no simple answer, and no two stories are ever the same. What feels right for one family may not feel right for another. Every perspective is welcome, appreciated, and respected here.

Many families have found comfort and healing in hearing from others who have faced similar decisions, especially in knowing they are not alone in their feelings or in the difficult choices they are navigating.

If you have experience with this, we invite you to share what helped you, what you considered, or what you wish you had known.

And if you have a question you would like to ask anonymously, send us a message. You never know who might be helped by the conversation that follows. ❤️
