Home Is The Foundation

Home Is The Foundation Vision: Everyone in Preble County has a safe and affordable place to call HOME. From the very first rental in 2003 to now 21+ years later, H.I.T.

Foundation owns and manages 54 residential rental units throughout Preble County that are made available to qualified families and individuals at rates below Fair Market Value (FMV). Our well-maintained rentals set the standard for a safe, quality, and affordable place to call HOME. Applications for housing can be obtained in office, on the website, or by emailing [email protected]

H.I.T Fo

undation began offering homeless prevention and rapid rehousing services to local residents in March 2015. By October, the Homeless Services Program expanded, allowing Home Is The Foundation to open Preble County's Emergency Homeless Shelter. The shelter serves as a temporary and safe place to stay and receive support for those individuals and families experiencing a housing crisis in Preble County. We believe older adults should be able to stay safely in their own homes as long as possible. Since 2015, utilizing donations, grants, local contractors and volunteers, the Senior Home Repair Program has helped hundreds of eligible households in Preble County with yard clean-ups, electrical, plumbing, roof repairs/replacements as well as accessibility modifications including ramps, handrails, grab bars, easy open door knobs and ADA bathroom modifications. To apply, you must be 60+ years of age, own your home, and reside in Preble County. Income guidelines also apply, and can be found on the application. Applications are available at hitfoundation.org, in the main office, or by emailing [email protected]

When a roommate situation unexpectedly fell through, one man found himself without a place to call home. Determined to rebuild his life, he reached out to Home Is The Foundation and entered the emergency homeless shelter.

Working closely with his case manager, he developed a plan to increase his income, build his savings, and work toward long-term self-sufficiency. Through his dedication and perseverance, he was able to secure an apartment that was the perfect fit for his new beginning.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, his apartment quickly became a home. Donated furnishings including a bed, couch, and dresser provided comfort, while kitchen essentials and cleaning supplies gave him everything he needed to settle in and start this new chapter with confidence.

This story is a reminder that with determination, support, and a caring community, a fresh start is always possible.

One of the questions we hear most often is, "How can I help?" or "What does H.I.T. Foundation need?"

The answer is simple—our greatest needs are the everyday essentials that help us serve individuals and families in our community.

This week, we're especially in need of:
🧼 Cleaning Supplies
🥫 Food Pantry Items
🪥 Hygiene Products

Every donation, no matter the size, helps us provide hope, dignity, and support to those who need it most.

Thank you for believing in our mission and helping us make a difference. ❤️

Today, we received a phone call that reminded us exactly why our mission matters.

Hearing stories like this is what keeps us going. Knowing that someone who once relied on our shelter is now sober, employed, and purchasing a home is an incredible testament to the power of hope, hard work, and second chances.

To everyone who supports HIT Foundation—whether through donations, volunteering, partnerships, or encouragement—thank you. You are part of stories like this every single day. ❤️
