St. George Island Sea Turtle Patrol Protecting & monitoring sea turtles nesting on St. George Island, Florida. Located on the northern Gulf coast, St. The St.

We are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to conservation education, and protecting nesting sea turtles and hatchlings through daily beach patrols, and nest monitoring. George Island hosts one of the highest numbers of nesting loggerhead turtles. George Island Volunteer Turtlers monitor and protect this population each year.

💚 TO OUR INCREDIBLE VOLUNTEERS

There simply aren’t enough words to express how proud I am of our team.

Our volunteers were on the beach before sunrise, day after day, through heat, rain, storms, and some truly heartbreaking conditions.

They searched for missing nests, documented storm damage, rescued stranded hatchlings, evaluated nests, and continued showing up even when the losses were overwhelming.

This season tested us physically and emotionally.

But our team never stopped caring.

You cannot measure the success of a sea turtle patrol solely by the number of hatchlings that reach the water. Sometimes success is measured by the dedication, compassion, and determination of the people who refuse to give up.

To every volunteer who gave their time, energy, and heart to these turtles — THANK YOU!

🐢💚 393 Nests. Countless Memories. Incredible Wins. And Some Heartbreaking Losses. 💚🐢

We are patiently and hopefully waiting for our last two sea turtle nests to hatch! 🐢🤞 We can’t share our final numbers until these last two nests have had their chance, but we can tell you that 393 nests were laid on St. George Island this season, including 13 Green sea turtle nests! 💚

What a season it has been! One filled with amazing victories, unforgettable moments, incredible people, and some truly heartbreaking losses. 💔

Bertha dealt us a devastating blow, and Mother Nature reminded us just how powerful she can be. We can’t control the wind or the water, and sometimes, despite our very best efforts, nature has other plans.

But what we CAN control is keeping our beaches CLEAN, FLAT, and DARK! 🐢🌊

And that is where YOU made such an incredible difference!

💚 To everyone who adopted a nest, sent supplies, made donations, or simply sent words of encouragement when Bertha broke our hearts — THANK YOU!

💚 To every homeowner and visitor who turned off their lights and closed their curtains and blinds — THANK YOU!

💚 To everyone who let us know about homes with lighting issues or missing blinds so we could try to help — THANK YOU!

💚 To every family who filled in holes, knocked down sandcastles, and removed their beach gear at night — THANK YOU!

And to everyone who cheered us on, celebrated every tiny hatchling, and reminded our volunteers why we do what we do — THANK YOU! ❤️

You may never know just how much your actions mattered, but we do.

You gave those precious little hatchlings and their nesting mamas the very best chance at life. 🐢💚

This season reminded us that conservation isn’t always about how many we save. Sometimes it’s about doing everything in our power, even when the odds are stacked against us.

We can’t change what the storms took from us, but we can be proud of everything we did together.

Now we wait, hope, and keep our fingers crossed for our final two nests. 🤞🐢

47 nests were laid after Bertha, 10 of those were memorial nests for everyone of our adopters that lost their nests because of Bertha. I am so happy to report that all 10 of those hatched!! 🐢💚

5 days before Isaias came on shore I was so blessed to watch some of our last loggerhead hatchlings run for the gulf.

Precious little loggerhead hatchlings making their way to the Gulf. 🌊 Every tiny set of flipper prints feels like a little miracle.

Godspeed, little ones! Grow up big and strong, explore that big beautiful ocean, and come back and see us in 30 years

Please help give them the best chance possible by keeping our beach Clean • Flat • Dark.
