We are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to conservation education, and protecting nesting sea turtles and hatchlings through daily beach patrols, and nest monitoring. George Island hosts one of the highest numbers of nesting loggerhead turtles. George Island Volunteer Turtlers monitor and protect this population each year.

Unfortunately, finding entire nests full of unhatched eggs has become far too common this season because of Bertha. 😩💔🐢

Every time we evaluate a nest and realize those little turtles never got their chance to make it to the Gulf, it hurts. Bertha took so much from our nests this year, and we’re seeing the effects weeks later during our evaluations.

But every hatchling that DOES emerge makes us that much more grateful. 💚🐢 Every tiny set of tracks leading toward the Gulf feels like a victory this season.

Please help us give the hatchlings that remain the very best chance possible. Keep our beach CLEAN, FLAT & DARK — fill in holes, knock down sandcastles, remove beach gear, turn off exterior lights, and close your blinds at night. USE RED FLASHLIGHTS AND NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY.

🐢💚 LOOK AT THEM GO! 💚🐢

Three days after this Loggerhead nest hatched, we returned for the evaluation and found these precious little stragglers still waiting for their chance. And today… they got it. 🌊🐢💚

Watching those tiny flippers carry them across the sand toward the Gulf hits a little differently this year.

Bertha was not kind to our nests. We lost so many and watched so much of our season get washed away. There were days that absolutely broke our hearts. So now, every single hatchling that emerges from the sand and makes that beautiful journey to the Gulf feels like a little miracle. 💚

They may be tiny, but goodness are they tough. 🐢

Look at them go! Go little ones, go! 🌊💚 We hope the Gulf is kind to you and that one day, many years from now, some of you find your way back home to SGI.

Look at this precious little one go! 🥹 There’s nothing quite like watching those tiny flippers work so hard as they make their way toward the Gulf. 🌊🐢

Please help give every hatchling the best chance possible:

Keep the beach CLEAN • FLAT • DARK
❤️ Use red flashlights only
🚫 No white flashlights or flash photography
🕳️ Fill in holes and knock down sandcastles
🏖️ Remove beach gear at night

A tiny little loggerhead hatchling was found still tucked inside the nest during our evaluation. 🐢💚 And just look at him go! 🌊

There is nothing sweeter than watching these little ones make their way toward the Gulf.

🐢💚 The final adoption turtles are being hung! 💚🐢

What an incredible season of support! From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU to everyone who adopted a nest, donated, shared our posts, cheered us on, and supported the St. George Island Sea Turtle Patrol. Every single one of you has helped make a difference for our nesting moms and their precious hatchlings. 🥹💚

Now we need your help giving these little ones the best possible chance to make it safely to the Gulf!

Please help us keep the beach:

🏖️ CLEAN — Take all beach gear and trash with you.
🏖️ FLAT — Fill in holes and knock down sandcastles.
🌙 DARK — Turn off exterior lights, close blinds and curtains, and please use RED flashlights only on the beach.

We may be nearing the end of nesting, but hatching season is here and every hatchling matters! 🐢🌊
