The SGI Civic Club extends our gratitude and appreciation to all those who participated in our 2024 Annual Golf Tournament and Fundraiser on Friday, November 22. The final numbers have been tallied and we’re pleased to announce that the event raised over $22,000 – all of which is earmarked for reallocation to charities and programs in Franklin County.
Despite the rescheduling of the event, and cooler weather, we had a solid representation of golfers and volunteers attend the event and enjoy a gorgeous day at St James Bay Golf Course. After beginning the day on the Centennial Bank Driving Range, our local golfers were joined by players as far away as Maine, and several groups from Port St Joe and Tallahassee.
The 1st Place Trophy was captured by the foursome of Keith Anderson, Shannon Watson, Phil Davis, and Ben Mathewson. Anderson and Mathewson were two new additions to returning 2023 tournament champions Watson and Davis.
James Donald, Ava Fehring, Rick Thaisen, and Bob Landiss, an SGI Local Team, with a little help from a visiting guest took the 2nd Place honors in a Scorecard Playoff (matching the winning score of 57).
Well known local, Bob Landiss, was also the winner of The Pioneer Ministries Putting Contest. Landiss captured the contest with a walk off hole in one putt on his first attempt.
Third Place in tournament play went to the hardworking th*****me, representing Centennial Bank: Cheree’ Duncan, Matt Duncan and Kelley Dettmer.
Kelley Dettmer also won The Tidewater Pools Longest Drive Contest .
Closest to Pin ( #17), sponsored by Mangia was won by Tom Van De Bunte, who played on the Brothers Mayfield team, who has had a Closest To The Pin in the last 3 tournaments.
Piggly Wiggly sponsored Closest To the Pig Contest ( #2) was won by SGI local and pastSGI Civic Club President, Bernie Boehnlein with a HOLE IN ONE.
While there were several close attempts, no golfers took home the $10,000 cash prize for the Hole In One, sponsored by Shelley Shepard – Berkshire Hathaway Home Services.
The newly added Salty Inspector Marshmallow Drive Contest was won by Ethan Rapac, who was a new addition to the Mayfield Brother’s Foursome. St James Bay resident, Nick Edwards set the bar high early with a drive of 106’, but Ethan edged out the win by adding 7” to the distance.
This fundraising event would not be possible without community participation, encouragement and support, and for that we are truly thankful! If you had the opportunity to enjoy the event, please let your friends and fellow golfers know so they can join us at the next one – but if you missed this year, we recommend you make plans to mark your calendar once the next event is fully scheduled.

While the tournament needs players and volunteers, sponsors are essential for the fundraiser. We appreciate the more than 50 individuals and small businesses that donated for Hole Signs and Sponsorship Opportunities.
We would like to remind you to consider supporting our Sponsors when possible and let them know you appreciated their contribution to the 2024 Annual SGI Civic Club Golf Tournament and Fundraiser.
