Nine years. Countless lives protected. K9 Berry earns his retirement.🐾

Maine State Police K9 Berry signed off for the final time this week after nine years of dedicated service alongside his partner, Sgt. Hink.

From his very first callout after graduating in 2017 — locating a fleeing suspect — to years of missing persons cases, narcotics removal, and school demonstrations, Berry gave everything to his community.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. was proud to outfit Berry with a protective vest back in 2018. Knowing that the vest was with him through years of service means everything to us.

K9 Berry, you are 10-7. Retired. Enjoy every car ride, swim, and toy you've earned.

Please join us in welcoming Master Deputy John Acree to our Advisory Board.

Master Deputy John Acree of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee is a law enforcement officer and an experienced K9 handler dedicated to the training, deployment, and advancement of police service dogs. He is currently partnered with K9 Drago, a dual-purpose patrol and narcotics detection dog. K9 Drago received a ballistic vest through Vested Interest in K9s and will be a featured K9 in the organization's 2026 calendar.

Deputy Acree is a passionate advocate for police K9s and their handlers. He is a strong supporter of initiatives that enhance K9 safety, elevate training standards, and provide essential resources that allow K9 teams to perform their duties effectively and safely.

A retired U.S. Army Special Agent, Deputy Acree has also served as a Crime Scene Investigator and Field Training Officer, receiving awards for valor and exceptional service. His commitment to advancing K9 operations ensures that these working dogs receive the training, equipment, and support necessary to succeed in their critical public safety roles.

For the first time ever, bloodhounds in Florida are getting the protection they've always deserved
Six bloodhounds with the Pasco County Sheriff's Office are receiving bullet and stab-resistant vests — and VIK9s is proud to make it happen. 🐾

These dogs have spent years tracking missing people and criminal suspects through woods, neighborhoods, and challenging terrain. Now, for the first time, they'll have an added layer of protection while doing it.

Handler Deputy Christina Demas said it best: "These vests are huge to us because now I feel a little more safer going into som**hing like that because he's safe."

Each vest is custom-fitted and costs approximately $1,800 — fully funded through donations. The vests are expected to arrive within the next 10 weeks.

Bloodhounds are often the last K9s to receive protective gear. We're here to change that.

The name Atlas wasn't chosen by accident.

In mythology, Atlas held the world on his shoulders. Officer McClaran chose it because this Belgian shepherd is the first K9 in Kyle Police Department (TX) history — and he's holding his city up.

Trained in narcotics searches and missing persons tracking, Atlas officially received his badge on June 1st. His handler says he's never been happier.

🐾 53 K9s. 30 departments. One shared mission — keeping communities safe. 🐾

Law enforcement K9 teams from across Minnesota and Wisconsin recently came together to earn their certifications through the United States Police Canine Association, proving their skills in everything from narcotics detection to engaging threats under fire.

Behind every certified K9 is 12–15 weeks of initial training, months of daily work, and years of dedication from their handler. These teams don't just pass a test. They earn it.

This is what it looks like when preparation meets purpose.
