In the Beginning:
The year was 1959. A group of enthusiastic music lovers from Taunton and Raynham decided it was time to have a civic chorus. Founders of the group included Frank E. Cann, business manager, and his wife Priscilla Cann who were members of the Neponset Choral Society. There were 15 charter members who joined together for the first rehearsal on September 10th.
Our Music:
During the 1960’s much of the music sung by the chorus was classical music - Handel’s Messiah, Brahm’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria to name a few.
Throughout the decades, as society changed, so did the music, and the tastes of the music directors. Tunes from Broadway shows, Hollywood movies, and pop culture emerged on the Taunton Civic Chorus programs. In the midst of the Pandemic, the chorus collaborated with the Old Colony History Museum to bring music and fun to the Greater Taunton Area.
The Civic Chorus annually presents Holiday and Spring Concerts.
