The County has announced a mandatory 3-day return-to-office policy for every department, a decision made behind closed doors, with no union consultation, and no research into how this will impact workers and their families. They say this decision is based on a desire for equity, but making across-the-board changes for every worker, without taking our unique workplace needs into account, is the exact opposite of equitable. Local 88 members are already sounding the alarm on how this decision will cost the County by making workers less productive and less satisfied. Our advocacy to get commissioners to reconsider giving over 100 million to the city for the Moda Center is working! We are demanding they not give away any funds that could backfill the General fund and prevent more layoffs and program cuts! We can’t stop the fight as they look at their financial contribution. Let’s keep pushing them to focus on the core mission of the county to provide services to our community.

Opposition from one of the most powerful voices in organized labor has the potential to upend a public subsidy deal.

Join us in telling our leaders we don’t support the Bad Deal they are trying to pass July 23rd to give away over 100 million dollars to the City for the Moda Center.

Chair Jessica Vega Pederson is pushing to force a vote on this proposal on Thursday, July 23, locking Multnomah County into an agreement that could burden taxpayers until 2049. While she will be leaving office in six months, County workers and our communities will be left to deal with the consequenc...

STOP REPRODUCTIVE INJUSTICE! STOP ICE!

Diana Santillana Galeano was detained by ICE on Nov. 5 at the Rayito de Sol Early Learning Center in Chicago as children were being dropped off. Officers grappled with her at the front door as parents gathered.

In July 2025, agents confronted a man outside his child's preschool near Portland, Oregon, with many children looking on. In Los Angeles, agents handcuffed a disabled teen near a high school campus. In October, ICE tear gas engulfed a Chicago elementary school playground during school hours.

Keep kids, parents and teachers safe from ICE!
Make schools and childcare centers safe havens!
Abolish ICE!
Stop attacks on immigrants!

We had a great time at Labor Notes! We attended workshops, heard great speakers, connected with labor friends new and old and learned a lot! I’m excited to see what new ideas the team brings to our union!

Multiple positions available including secretary, executive board (6), trustees (2), and delegates (8) for for AFSCME International convention August 17-21, 2026. You can self nominate or nominate someone else. Any member in good standing can be nominated.

We also will review proposed administrative changes to our Local 88 constitution. If approved, we will also vote to send our amended constitution to the international union for approval. Proposed changes can be found here: bit.ly/L88Const
