Miss Pat's Cats needs a little help! I was sent a message Monday from a fellow rescuer, Susan, regarding a kitty living on the back porch of an abandoned house she saw on Nextdoor! I reached out to the OP and got the address, its literally 5 minutes from my home, so went Tuesday to rescue the kitty! When I saw where this poor kitty was living, my heart dropped! She was literally laying atop of this garbage in alley! Someone moved and not only left the kitten but a bunch of garbage in the alley and backyard! I could barely reach the kitty. I named her Liza, she is getting spayed today. Then I received an email from a lady who runs a garden in East Orange, when I arrived Wednesday I saw my High School classmate Pam who sent the email, she had no idea it was me and vice versa! A mom cat made her home in the garden! She gave birth to 2 kittens who are now about 5 Mos old then had another litter of 5 kittens about 6 weeks ago. I caught 4 of the 5 by sneaking up on them and scruffing them. Went back yesterday in the heat to set trap for the 5th kitten, to no avail. He or she is very elusive, always that one!😟 Will trap mom Tuesday to have her tnr'd then back on the 24th to trap dad and the 2 juvies. I am going back today to try to get the hard to get kitten! Pam, my HS friend and the volunteers at the garden love the cats but doesn't want a colony of cats. They feed them and they have a lovely, quiet home in the garden! (see video in comments) Then yesterday got a call frim a feeder in Orange about a cat in who cut their tongue on a can! This is why you don't feed in cans! The kitty wasn't there when I arrived but owner of the restaurant who takes care of the cats told me there's was a black kitten living under a trailer! I took a look and saw this poor kitten no more than 7 weeks eating on a dead bird then running back under the trailer! 😪 I had brought 3 kitten traps and left 2 in the garden in two separate locations for the 5th kitten so set up the 3rd for the black kitten under trailer. I had to go to West Orange Petco to give Bogart his meds. The volunteers informed me he wasn't acting himself so took him to Valley Vet Monday! Another vet bill we had to pay. Then went back to the restaurant to find the starving kitten in my trap. Then back to the garden to check my traps for the 5th kitten, no luck. To say I have had one whirlwind of a week is an understatement! I had to go to Pet Supplies Plus Tuesday and Thursday to fill in for one of our pawesome volunteers! I was supposed to go to Teterboro to train a volunteer for a 2nd time but when I told her how much was on my plate she said she felt confident to go it alone!🙏
I wake up this morning to a text from a Hillside resident who found this kitten running by his foot as he got out of his car! His parents wouldn't allow the kitten so he hid it in his room for the night then brought to me 8am this morning! It's a little girl! I asked him to be on the lookout for more and possibly the mom! To say this has been a whirlwind of a week is putting it mildly! I don't do well in heat but God gave me the strength to do what was needed! So here we are, more kittens who will need fosters! Until then and after we are in need of litter and kitten food, wet & dry! I bought 7 bags of dry for the rescue kitties and pay for food in Petco & PSP. My cat mobile broke down on me last Friday while feeding! So after a new water pump, lower arm control and bushings, it set me back $991, Bogart's Vet bill, $449! We owe 3 vets over $5000 so I will soon need to do a fundraiser to help with our vet bills and the 10 kitties who went for their spay/neuter today, with a balance of the last spay/neuters of $870! Then Sheltering Vets a whopping $1000 and Greenpond $3000! $1000 stemming from an owner who I helped with her cat for a blockage! She NEVER paid me or the vet with an exception of $10!!😡
