***John Canoe, who they called Junkanoo.
***Richard's Slave had no name, so they called Richardson (Richard's son)
***Master John kept his slaves well, when whites saw them in town they'd say, "There's John's son. That eventually became Johnson. Then after slavery, black families added their own first name but remained Johnson (John's son).

Know your history:
Here are some songs by slaves. There are plenty more and as has recently been found, there are messages in the songs that slaves sent to one another because they didn't want the master or over seer to know what they were saying
