The Men of Essex Golf Classic: A 64-Year Tradition of Excellence

Founded in 1960, the Men of Essex Golf Classic is one of New Jersey’s and the Nation’s longest-running and most respected African American-led charity golf tournaments. Now in its 64th year, this iconic event has united business leaders, civic influencers, and community advocates for nearly seven decades in support of youth development and educational advancement throughout Essex County.

What began as a gathering of professional Black men seeking fellowship and philanthropy through sport has grown into a marquee summer tradition — blending competitive golf, networking, and community impact. Over the years, the Classic has raised thousands of dollars for scholarships and mentorship programs, embodying the Men of Essex’s mission of service, brotherhood, and excellence.

The 64th Annual Golf Classic, taking place August 4, 2025, continues that proud legacy — honoring tradition while investing in the future.

The MEN OF ESSEX have teamed up with Ms. Alpa Patel owner of the 7-ELEVEN to provide bookbags to the youth of our East Orange community. The event will take place at 247 Freeway Drive, East Orange, NJ 07017 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Food and beverages will be served while supplies last. We hope to see you there!

We are a group of men who wish to serve as mentors and conduits to a better future for our young people. We are one of New Jersey's oldest African-American charitable organizations and are dedicated to bettering the lives of residents in the greater Essex County New Jersey community.
