⚾️ HAPPENINGS AT THE LEARNING CENTER 🥎

This week’s Rotary meeting welcomed guest Kyle VanFosson, Director of the River Valley Youth Baseball League, who shared updates on the league’s continued growth — including the exciting addition of girls softball — and their goal of purchasing the baseball field property with the help of community support.

We love seeing our Center used for exactly this — bringing people together, sharing ideas and building connections that strengthen our community. 💙

Thank you to all of the groups and organizations who continue to use the Learning Center as a place to meet, connect and grow!

💙🤍 What’s Happening at the Center? ⚜️

We love seeing awesome people and organizations making use of the East Liverpool Community Center and this one deserves a big congratulations!

Scouts of America Troop 2012 recently gathered at the Center for their Court of Honor, celebrating an incredible 241 merit badges earned and 21 rank advancements! 👏🏅

With 27 active Scouts and several working toward the prestigious Eagle Scout rank, there was certainly plenty to celebrate.

Congratulations to all of the Scouts on their hard work and accomplishments, and to the leaders, families and volunteers who continue to encourage and support them along the way.

We’re proud to see our Center filled with moments like these: community, celebration and some pretty awesome young people doing great things! 💙🤍

We are proud to shine our Community Partner Spotlight on Scouts of America Troop 2012 and the Scouts, families and dedicated volunteers who are helping develop the next generation of leaders right here in East Liverpool!

Troop 2012, chartered by Longs Run Trinity Presbyterian Church, currently includes 27 active Scouts and 20 adult leaders. The troop recently gathered at the East Liverpool Community Center for its Court of Honor, celebrating an incredible 241 merit badges earned and 21 rank advancements! 🏅👏

Several Scouts are also working toward the prestigious Eagle Scout rank, demonstrating the commitment, perseverance, service and leadership that are at the heart of Scouting.

We are especially proud of the many young people in Troop 2012 who are also part of our Potter family! Through community service, outdoor experiences, merit badges and youth-led leadership opportunities, these Scouts are learning skills and values that will serve them for a lifetime.

Thank you to Scoutmaster Mike McGown, Advancement Chair and Assistant Scoutmaster Billie Conrad, Assistant Scoutmaster Shelby Allison, Committee Chair Eber Grimes, and the entire team of adult leaders, families and volunteers who invest their time and talents in our young people.

And a special thank you to Longs Run Trinity Presbyterian Church for its continued support of Troop 2012 and Scouting in our community.

📚 The Legends & Lecture Series is Back!

Each summer seems to pass a little quicker, and somehow it’s already time to kick off our 2026–2027 Legends & Lecture Series!

After an incredible 60 presentations in a row, we hit a little bump when our 61st scheduled presenter had to cancel. But, as they say, the show must go on and we’re lucky to have one of our favorite past presenters stepping in!

Join us Tuesday, September 8 at 7:00 PM as local attorney and historian Tim Brookes presents:

📰 “Historical Findings in Local Newspapers”

Tim is even stepping outside his usual presentation topics to research something new just for us. With his knowledge of local history and his wonderful sense of humor, we know it will be an informative and entertaining evening.

📚 Our Legacy & Legends Lecture Series is Back for its 11th Season!

For more than a decade, the East Liverpool Community & Learning Center has welcomed our community together to learn, laugh, and celebrate the people, places, and stories that make our region so special.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, the Legacy & Legends Lecture Series has raised more than $40,000 for the Center. Those funds have helped make important improvements—like our new entrance and handicap ramp—and continue to support the many programs and services offered throughout the year.

As we begin another exciting season, we’re asking our loyal supporters to consider a $100 donation to help keep this tradition going. Every contribution helps preserve local history, bring outstanding presenters to our community, and ensure these programs remain available for everyone to enjoy.

✨ Our 2026–2027 lineup includes:

📖 September 8 – Historian Gene Kroty explores “Who in the Heck is Marcus Hanna?” and the fascinating story behind the man who helped elect President William McKinley.

🎨 October 13 – Returning favorite Craig Wetzel presents “The Story of a Book” as part of America’s 250th birthday celebration.

📰 November 17 – Author Fred Miller returns with “The Greatest Columns Ever Written.”

🇺🇸 March 9, 2027 – Linda Henderson shares “Signing Their Lives Away,” revealing what became of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence.

🗂️ April 27 – Archivist Linda McCoy from the Columbiana County Archives & Research Center discusses how local archives can help uncover your family’s history.

🎭 May 25 – By popular demand, Eddie Murphy returns to portray abolitionist and women’s rights advocate Sojourner Truth in what promises to be another unforgettable performance.

☕ Lectures are typically held on Tuesday evenings in the Farmers Room, with refreshments beginning at 6:30 p.m. and presentations starting at 7:00 p.m.

What a great looking crew! ☂️

Members of the East Liverpool Rotary Club pose under the newly installed patriotic umbrellas in Umbrella Alley in downtown East Liverpool. ☂️

Rotarians were accompanied by East Liverpool Garden Club Members (seated, from left) Mary Beth Gill and Sally Haines. Standing behind Gill is her husband, Mike. The Rotary Club gave a donation that went towards the purchase of the new umbrellas. The display is in honor of the Fourth of July and in recognition of East Liverpool being named an America 250 city. 🇺🇸A celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of America will be held downtown Saturday, July 11. ❤️🤍💙


Mike and Mary Beth Gill spearheaded the creation of Umbrella Alley about 5 years ago. Mary Beth was named a Hometown Hero in 2022 by WYTV News in recognition of her hard work. 👏🏻 👏🏻
