TOP TEACHER: This week, we bring you the story of Thomas Ross, a physics teacher and Head of Science Department at Columbia High School who's known for making a hard class fun ⚗⚛

Mr. Ross has been at Columbia for ten years now. He's got a rare ability to make a challenging class interactive, with an eccentricity and sense of humor that keeps everyone engaged from bell to bell. Students told NewsChannel 13 that physics intimidated them at the start of the school year, but now, Mr. Ross' class is something they look forward to every morning. In an inspiring display of unity and solidarity, members of the Columbia football team came together to pay respects to a former coach's late wife.

Norm Preston, a local football legend, is well known in the East Greenbush/Rensselaer communities for his coaching legacy. Last week, his wife, Jean, passed away after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. This week, members of the Columbia varsity football team- coached by Norm's grandson, Jacob- attended Jean's wake to pay their respects.

According to Norm and Jean's granddaughter, Jean would have loved that the boys did this all on their own, and is a true testament to their character, their parents, and the community that raised them.
