This memorial was set up in Rowdy's honor after a bull riding accident at a PRCA rodeo in Mineral Wells, Texas. Rowdy was a member of the OSU Rodeo Team as well as a PRCA cowboy. All proceeds from the annual event go to the Rowdy Swanson Memorial Endowment.
