We’re excited to celebrate Duluth artist and current DFAL President Ashley Lynch, whose beautiful photographic work is featured in The Art of Light Photography Exhibition at the Suwanee Arts Center.

This curated show is running September 12 – October 30, showcasing artists who use light in creative and compelling ways. If you haven’t visited yet, don't miss the opportunity to see his work in person and support local talent.

City Hall DFAL Display: Featuring Artist Anita Stewart

We are excited to share that Anita Stewart is our latest DFAL artist showcased in the display cabinet near the Main Street entrance of Duluth City Hall. Her beautiful and wide‑ranging works will be on view through the end of December.

Anita graduated with a BA from the University of Memphis in 1977 and spent 23 years teaching art in both public and private schools. An award‑winning international artist, she has exhibited in universities, art centers, libraries, and galleries throughout the Atlanta area for more than 40 years, with her original works shown internationally since 2005.

Her prolific art spans many styles and media. Her 2023 solo show at Gilmer Arts featured 56 pieces inspired by visits to 11 countries. She has also been selected as an artist in residence in Australia, New Zealand, Panama, and Mexico. Anita is especially known for her Lacy Ladies relief sculptures, transforming saturated gauze into flowing, imaginative figures that captivate viewers.

DFAL Art-Themed Trivia Night Fundraiser Announced!

We shared the exciting news at the DFAL meeting on Wednesday night. Our DFAL Art-Themed Trivia Night Fundraiser is coming up on Wednesday, November 18 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at Niko’s W**e Cellar, and we cannot wait to see everyone there.

Get ready for a fun evening of community, creativity, and friendly competition. Quizmaster Ron Valdez will lead themed rounds, great questions, with plenty of laughter.

Registration opened October 21 at the DFAL meeting, so gather your team and think of a clever team name. It is going to be a fun night supporting local arts in Duluth. We hope you will join us.

Tracy Lord, of the Philadelphia Lords, is a headstrong and spoiled daughter of the privileged class. Divorced from C.K. Dexter Haven, she plans to wed a successful young snob. At the family estate, Tracy’s wedding weekend grows more eventful as a gossip reporter and a camerawoman arrive cover the wedding arrangements. Tracy’s brother hopes to divert their attention from Father Lord’s romance with a Broadway dancer, and Tracy finds herself growing interested in Connor, the fascinating reporter. This Broadway hit was adapted into a smash 1940 film starring Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart. The play was later adapted into the musical film High Society, starring Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra.

DFAL Artists & Friends — A New Public Art Opportunity!

Gateway85 CID has announced a Call for Mural Proposals — an exciting chance for experienced muralists to help shape one of Gwinnett County’s most vibrant and diverse districts.

This project will commission powerful, inspiring outdoor murals at key locations within the Gateway85 Community Improvement District, an area known for its rich 50‑year history of innovation, cultural diversity, and ongoing revitalization. The murals aim to strengthen community identity, enhance pedestrian‑friendly spaces, and celebrate the people who call this district home.

- Project Focus:

Public murals at prominent Gateway85 locations
Themes of community, diversity, resilience, and placemaking
Supported by the Gwinnett Creativity Fund
Part of a growing public art footprint, including the Jimmy Carter Blvd mural dedicated in 2025

This is a wonderful opportunity for DFAL artists who specialize in large‑scale work — or who are ready to take on a bold new challenge — to contribute to a meaningful, high‑visibility project in our region.

Celebrating one of our own!

Only 3 days until the Duluth Fall Festival, and we’re excited to spotlight DFAL member Mary Buck, who will be there as both a sponsor and a vendor this year.

You can find Mary on Main Street at Booth #337, right in front of String & Story. She’ll have her books available for purchase, along with her new “Out of This World” artwork featuring her striking photograph, “In the Middle of Nowhere.”

We’re excited to cheer on Brenda Ehly, longtime DFAL member and beloved musician, as she takes the stage with River North along with Scott Ehly, Pam Hamilton, and David Dworkin, at the 43rd Annual Duluth Fall Festival!
