As we round out AAPI Heritage Month we want to remind everyone of the critical role each of us play in being educated about history, actively listening to each other, and giving space to welcome people as they are. Racism, “othering” and hate ripples through communities today and is meant to separate and tear us apart. This PBS video reviews Chinese American history from the 1800’s but sadly history is repeating itself in 2026.

Do not be afraid because we are in this fight together. Stay well, be kind and support your BIPOC friends/neighbors.

Our goal is to support Twin Ports APIDA-owned businesses, build relationships and TPAC presence, and create even more opportunities for our community to gather.

Every May, The Asian American Foundation releases the STAATUS Index, a survey on attitudes held by and towards Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States. The 2026 STAATUS Index finds, among other things:

* 50% of U.S. adults say being born in the U.S. is important to being truly American, while 77% of AAPIs say it is not;
* 44% of AAPIs say they feel worried, while “hopeful” leads for other racial/ethnic groups;
* 1 in 5 U.S. adults are concerned that Chinese Americans pose a threat to U.S. society;
* Only 7% of U.S. adults believe AAPI communities have “a great deal” of influence on U.S. culture; and
* Over 1 in 5 AAPIs report being insulted or harassed because of their race in the past year.

For more on attitudes around belonging, policy disconnect, perceived threats, recognition lag, persistent challenges, and paths forward, read the report at https://www.taaf.org/our-work/staatus-index-2026?fbclid=IwY2xjawRm8RJleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFFY3Z3Q3FJU1VHTTNsYTIzc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHlOuFM2FzR37vnYoasNUcuwFOgBCzf6aHdEgCwYvmp22_im1ogQKb_IezAjy_aem_L5U--knffBRW78M4EFe8lQ

Many of our allies have reached out to ask how to best support your Asian Pacific Islander Desi American neighbors in the Twin Ports right now. The TPAC board's opinion column in the DNT yesterday shares some ideas for how. We are grateful for our ally members and allies in our community, and for the solidarity of our fellow BIPOC community members during this time. We stand alongside you -- we are in this together.

From the column: "While recent enforcement has been more visible in Minnesota’s metro areas, Duluth should not mistake winter’s quiet for safety."

Matinee Musicale is presenting Asian American duo Arcostrum at a concert on Feb 1 at Pilgrim Congregational Church at 3pm. Please share with your friends and come out with your friends to enjoy an electric afternoon of music for guitar and violin by Astor Piazzola, Haihuai Huang, Domenico Scarlatti, and Antonio Vivaldi!

ArcoStrum has announced the program for their February 1 performance! This concert is a multi-instrumental, genre-defying showcase that seamlessly intertwines the contemporary Tango mastery of Piazzolla with the timeless classics of Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

Here’s some of what you’ll enjoy in just a few weeks:

Primavera Porteña (Buenos Aires Spring), arr. ArcoStrum - Astor Piazzolla
Horse Racing 赛⻢, arr. ArcoStrum - Haihuai Huang
Keyboard Sonata, K. 141, arr. ArcoStrum - Domenico Scarlatti
Winter from The Four Seasons, arr. David Galvez - Antonio Vivaldi
