It’s been another busy week for the Rotary Club of Sugarloaf, filled with community spirit, fellowship, and getting to know one another a little better!
 
🎀 This past weekend, our club showed up in pink for the Gwinnett Hospital System Foundation Northside Hospital Paint Gwinnett Pink 5K Walk/Ru! From walkers to runners, we had a great time coming together to support a wonderful cause. There’s nothing better than spending time with fellow Rotarians while supporting our community!
 
💙 Back at our club meeting, Kami Clements gave her classification talk, sharing more about her life, experiences, and the person behind the profession! One of our favorite parts of welcoming new members is getting to know them beyond their work, and Kami gave us another opportunity to do just that.
 
🌎 We also welcomed Greg Whitlock, who shared more about the Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP) and the incredible opportunities it provides for international students. Our very own GRSP student, , gave us a glimpse into her life back home in Copenhagen, Denmark, introducing us to her family and sharing some of the adventures she’s hoping to experience during her time with us. We can’t wait to help her check a few things off that list!
 
From painting the town pink to learning more about our Rotary family near and far, it’s weeks like these that remind us that Rotary is just as much about the friendships we build as the service we provide. 💙💛

We’ve had a busy couple of weeks at the Rotary Club of Sugarloaf, filled with new faces, meaningful conversations, and opportunities to make a difference in our community!
 
🎉 Last week, we proudly welcomed Chris McGahee as our newest club member! Chris serves as the Economic Development & Marketing Director for the City of Duluth and is no stranger to Rotary, having previously served as a Rotarian. We’re thrilled to have him join our Rotary family and look forward to serving alongside him!
 
We also welcomed Dr. Carolyn Bourdeaux, Executive Director of The Concord Coalition and former U.S. Congresswoman for Georgia. Dr. Bourdeaux gave us an insightful look at our nation’s current debt, the challenges ahead, and what can be done to address them. Her presentation sparked important conversations about the state of our country’s finances and reminded us that making a difference can start close to home—including staying informed and participating in local elections!
 
🏡 This week, we had the privilege of presenting our Rotary Foundation Grant to Joy Monroe, Founder & CEO of SPARC! These funds will help two families transition from extended-stay hotels into permanent housing, providing an opportunity for greater stability and a place to call home. We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with SPARC and support the incredible work they are doing for families in our community.
 
🌟 We also welcomed Lisa Zaken, President & CEO of Leadership Gwinnett, who shared her vision for the future of the program and how it can continue to develop and inspire the next generation of community leaders. With so many of our own members proudly representing “The Best Class of...” Leadership Gwinnett, it’s safe to say this program holds a special place in our club! We’re excited to see how it continues to grow and shape the future of Gwinnett County.
 
From welcoming new members to supporting families in need and investing in the next generation of leaders, these past two weeks have been a wonderful reminder of what Service Above Self is all about.

💙 This week was all about supporting our own!
 
Our Rotarians have been busy making an impact throughout Gwinnett County, and we were proud to show up and celebrate alongside them!
 
👮 Britt Hultgren Ramroop created and organized the inaugural Gwinnett Police Gala, a wonderful evening dedicated to celebrating and supporting the men and women who serve our community every day. We’re so proud to see one of our own bring this special event to life and create a meaningful night for Gwinnett’s law enforcement community!
 
🎉 Daisy Mills, MPA and the Sugarloaf CID celebrated a major milestone with the CID’s 10th Anniversary! Daisy put together a fantastic event honoring a decade of growth, partnerships, and impact in our community. The celebration was made even sweeter when our very own Club President, Brandon Odum, was recognized with an award alongside Pinnacle Financial Partners. Congratulations, Brandon!
 
Back at our club meeting, we welcomed Antonio Davis, Information Security Director for Northeast Georgia Health System, who gave us a timely lesson in cybersecurity. With AI continuing to change the way we work—and the ways cyber threats can reach us—Antonio shared practical insight into what we can do in the workplace and in our everyday lives to better protect ourselves and our information. 💻🔐
 
From supporting fellow Rotarians out in the community to learning how to better protect ourselves in an increasingly digital world, it was another busy week for the Rotary Club of Sugarloaf!

🎉 Today, we celebrate! 🎉
 
In 1982, the Rotary Club of Sugarloaf officially became a club—which means it’s our birthday! And what better way to celebrate another year of Rotary than by welcoming two new members into our family?
 
Today, Ruby Wilson and Kari Evans of the Gwinnett County Public Library were officially inducted into the Rotary Club of Sugarloaf! We are so pleased to welcome these two outstanding pillars of our community and look forward to serving alongside them. 💙💛
 
And a little piece of club history worth celebrating: The Rotary Club of Sugarloaf was the first Rotary Club in Gwinnett County to admit women! From breaking barriers to welcoming the next generation of Rotarians, we’re proud of the history that has shaped our club.
 
We were also honored to welcome our District Governor, Dr. Paul Matthews, who shared stories from his travels abroad through Rotary—from participating in humanitarian work to attending international conventions. It was fascinating to hear firsthand how Rotarians from around the world come together across borders and cultures in service of a shared mission. 🌎
 
From celebrating where we’ve been to welcoming new members who will help shape where we’re going, we couldn’t think of a better way to spend our birthday.
 
Happy Birthday, Rotary Club of Sugarloaf! Here’s to many more years of fellowship, service, and making a difference—at home and around the world. 🎂

We had a great time celebrating our fundraising efforts yesterday and announcing our Gwinnett Duck Derby 2026 winners! Thank you to all for showing up and supporting this worthy fundraiser. As a result, we raised over $33k in NET funds, our best year ever! Stay tuned year round to see those fundraising dollars at work around our community. We are looking forward to making our biggest impact yet!

We’ve had some great speakers over the past few weeks, giving us the opportunity to learn more about the work happening both across North Georgia and right here in our own backyard!
 
A few weeks ago, we welcomed Scott James, Senior Regional Director for North Georgia with Ducks Unlimited. Scott shared more about the conservation work Ducks Unlimited is doing to protect and restore wetlands and wildlife habitats throughout our region. It was a great look at the important role conservation plays in protecting these natural resources for generations to come. 🌿🦆
 
Last week, we turned our attention closer to home with Chris McGahee, Economic Development Director for the City of Duluth. Chris gave us a look at what’s happening throughout the city, the projects on the horizon, and how Duluth continues to grow and evolve.
 
He also took us back in time with a look at the history of Downtown Duluth. Seeing where things once stood and how much the city has transformed over the years was fascinating—and longtime locals may remember a certain Boudreaux’s and its crawfish making an appearance in the conversation! 🦞
 
Thank you to Scott and Chris for spending time with us and helping our club learn a little more about the environment and community around us!
