Anjiro Initiative

Since 2014, our community-driven organization has supported more than 600 scholarships for students in primary and secondary schools in Anjiro.

Anjiro Initiative relies on community contributions to provide grants to schools to cover the cost of schooling fees for economically disadvantaged students in Anjiro, a small farming community in Eastern Madagascar. Throughout the year we engage closely with school administration, beneficiary families and students, and the local government to monitor the progress of our grant making program, ensuring that we are accountable to those we serve.

We're hiring — Volunteer Support Advocacy Projet

Anjiro Initiative is recruiting a Volunteer to support its Advocacy Project, part of the Madagascar Education System Reform Advocacy Project.

For over a decade, Anjiro Initiative has worked to break barriers to education in Madagascar.

This new role supports our next step: coordinating a national independent consultation process, engaging stakeholders across all 24 regions, the Malagasy diaspora, researchers, universities, youth organizations, Parliament and relevant Ministries, to build a policy brief for educational system reform.

- Primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings and local déplacements.

📅 Duration: 6 months (September 2026 – March 2027)
💼 Position Type: Part-time (modest allowance)

You'll help keep this national initiative on track, maintaining stakeholder communication,
organizing meetings and consultations, tracking progress across all 24 regions, and supporting
the team behind the scenes.

We're looking for someone based in Antananarivo who is organized, reliable and proactive, fluent in French with a good working level of English, comfortable with everyday digital tools, and genuinely interested in education, youth participation and public policy.
In return: a modest monthly allowance, internet connectivity support, an official certificate of
completion, and hands-on experience with a national multi-stakeholder initiative.

Thanks to the support of the Anjiro Program, children from three local schools , such as : CEG Antsirinala, FJKM Antsirinala, and Don Bosco Antsirinala, sat for their BEPC Official Exam.

The result? 59.2% of Anjiro-supported students passed this Official Exam, a milestone that reflects not only their hard work, but also the power of opportunity when barriers to education are removed.

We celebrate every child who dared to dream, studied with determination, and achieved this success. Their journey is proof that with scholarships, mentorship, and community support, Malagasy youth can rise to new heights.

At Anjiro Initiative, we believe education is the key to breaking cycles of poverty and opening doors to a brighter future. Together, let’s keep building pathways for children to thrive.

This year, 96.3% of the children supported by the Anjiro Program in the Antsirinala Community successfully passed their CEPE Official Exam.

Candidates came from three primary institutions in this community: EPP Antsirinala, FJKM Antsirinala, and Don Bosco Antsirinala.

Congratulations to all these children! Let’s continue empowering them to reach greater heights in their education.

We're excited to introduce Linda Gonzales , who also, has joined Anjiro Initiative as a Virtual Service Pilot Participant (VSPP), bringing her training and facilitation experience to our Madagascar Country Team.

Linda has been working closely with our staff to co-develop a Training of Trainers curriculum and co-facilitate sessions on participatory approaches, women's empowerment, cultural competence, and community trust-building skills that will help our team engage even more effectively with the schools, families, and communities we serve.

In her own words:

"The opportunity to work with this team has been a blessing for me. I am retired and have not used my training skills for some time, and this was a challenge I am grateful for. Throughout the VSPP experience with this team, we have been challenged by language and technology but managed to keep moving forward. For me this has been a rewarding experience, a chance to help guide a new generation of leaders who will be bringing good to so many young people.

If you have missed being an active volunteer, connecting with other cultures, and sharing your knowledge and skills, the opportunity to serve through VSPP is something to consider. There are so many ways to serve.

Thank you to the entire Anjiro team for making my experience memorable."

New Partnership for Education in Madagascar

The Anjiro Initiative is excited to announce our collaboration with the Peace Corps’ Virtual Service Pilot Program (VSPP). Through this partnership, we are working with volunteer Kim Armstrong to strengthen our communications and broaden awareness of our mission to empower Malagasy youth through equitable education.

Kim Armstrong shares:

“I'm so thankful for the opportunity to work alongside the Anjiro Initiative team. Getting to collaborate with people who care so deeply about education and opportunity for Madagascar students has been so inspiring, and I'm grateful for the chance to support their mission and help share their success stories.”

This marks our first engagement with Peace Corps, and we look forward to the impact this collaboration will have in amplifying our mission and supporting education opportunities for students in Madagascar.

This year, 64% of the young people supported by the Anjiro Initiative from the Anjiro Community successfully passed the BEPC Official Exam.

The community is made up of three institutions: CEG Anjiro, Lycée Sainte Chantale, and Collège Privé FJKM Lovasoa.

This achievement is a testament to the resilience and determination of Malagasy youth. Let’s continue to stand by them, they are the future of Madagascar, and they deserve every chance to pursue their education.

The primary school network in the Anjiro Community is made up of five institutions, three of them, such as: EPP Anjiro, Lycée Sainte Chantale, and Collège Privé FJKM Lovasoa had children who sat for the CEPE Official Exam.

This year, the Anjiro Initiative supported 29 children who sat for this official exam from these schools and 27 of them successfully passed.

Let’s continue supporting Malagasy children. They are the future of Madagascar, and they deserve every opportunity to pursue their education.

The Baccalaureate exam is the final official examination Malagasy youth take before entering university. It represents a major milestone in their educational journey. For many, this diploma is not only a gateway to higher education but also a crucial qualification for employment, especially for those facing financial challenges.

Sadly, only 5–7% of Malagasy youth reach this level. That’s why the Anjiro Initiative is dedicated to supporting parents in rural communities by providing scholarships that help children stay in school and pursue their dreams.

Let’s wish all candidates success and fulfillment as they take this important step forward.

This week, many Malagasy students are reaching an important milestone in their educational journey. They are taking the BEPC Official Exam, the final exam of lower secondary school before entering high school.
