The first cohort of Career Accelerator has now graduated💫 and is out in the world of STEM, accelerating in their careers! But where are they now?

Fernando Sánchez López (Ferch) graduated from San José State University with a Bachelor's in Computer Science💻 After that, he worked closely with The Foundation, volunteering at K-12 programs like STEM🌱company campus tours and higher education week panels while applying to grad school.

Now, Ferch will begin a PhD in Education at the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies, researching the educational challenges faced by Latinos in STEM!

Ferch is just one example of our goal for the Harvest🌳 phase in our three-phase model: LITSI alumni advancing in their fields and giving back to The Foundation. We are so proud of Ferch for this huge achievement. To learn more about the Harvest phase and our Career Accelerator program, click the link: https://lnkd.in/gFCvYtte

✈️ Exploring the Skies and Beyond! ✈️

The Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley brought families from San Mateo County to Aviation Day in San Francisco this past weekend — an unforgettable day of discovery and hands‑on learning.

This free STEM🌱 experience, hosted by Alaska Airlines, is designed for students ages 11–18 to learn about aviation and the many careers that power it.

From piloting and engineering to tech innovation, students explored the full spectrum of aviation careers through interactive demos, aircraft tours, and conversations with professionals who make the industry soar.🛩️

Events like this are what we do: expand access to STEM pathways. By opening doors to real‑world experiences, we help students see themselves in fields they may have never imagined.

A parent told our team after the event:
“Thank you so much for this lovely experience. My kids were thrilled and enjoyed it very much. I can't thank you enough!”

Aviation Day was more than a field trip — it was a spark. And we will continue to turn those sparks into futures filled with possibility.✨

🚀 Celebrating 100 Future Innovators!

This past school year, 100 students graduated from the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley’s Girls Who Code club — and their achievements speak volumes.

🔹Nearly 60% of participants had never joined a STEM club before
🔹 By year’s end, 92% said they would recommend the program to other students
🔹 And 70% want to participate again in the fall

These students stepped into coding with curiosity and walked out with real technical skills in STEM💡

Check out some of the incredible final projects they built:
⭐ An animated GIF of Herby (Nintendo) where Herby moves as you wave a wand over them
⭐ A Flappy Bird game using the space bar to fly and dodge obstacles
⭐ A geometry‑based game where solving equations makes a character climb up platforms
⭐ An interactive Roblox character whose armor plays unique sounds when clicked

These projects aren’t just fun — they’re proof of what happens when students are given guidance, encouragement, and education in a STEM field🤗

🎉Celebrating more graduates!🎉

We are proud to celebrate 45 parents who completed our Digital Literacy program, gaining the foundational computer skills needed to better support their students’ education. 💻

As shared by instructor Patricia Rodriguez, at the graduation, “Everyone here has the capacity to learn.📚 We can use education to better ourselves.”

Well-equipped, engaged parents make for better students. We are honored to strengthen parents to become better advocates for their children’s academic journeys.💫

Thank you to our partners and community leaders who make this work possible:
🙏 Everyone On
🙏 Foundation for Hispanic Education
🙏 August Boeger Middle School
🙏 Ida Jew Academy and Valle Vista Elementary
🙏 Overfelt High School

And special thanks to our school leaders for showing up in support of our families: Dr. Sherry Segura, Principal Jesus Rios, and Cynthia Torres. Congratulations to our graduates🎓 and happy graduation season!

HFSV was selected as a grant recipient by Brownell Middle School’s Youth in Philanthropy & Leadership Program (YIP)!🙌

Each year, 120+ middle and high school students from Gilroy learn the fundamentals of grantmaking and community impact. This year, they chose HFSV as one of their grant recipients, awarding us $500 in support of our work💙

This recognition is especially meaningful because earlier this year, YIP students joined us for a field trip to Micron Technology— exploring STEM career pathways through hands‑on AI activities, speed networking, and a behind‑the‑scenes tour.

A huge thank‑you to the YIP students, Latino Family Fund, Gilroy Foundation, and Brownell Middle School staff for believing in our mission and investing in our community🙏💫

This grant will help us continue creating field trip experiences that open doors to careers and spaces for aspiring STEM students🚀
