On National Night Out, HFSV's Seed (K-12) team shared with families at Great Oaks Park🌳 about our STEM and parent education programs. Families heard all about our digital literacy courses, field trips, coding clubs 🖥️, and other resources to support students on their path to a STEM career.

Minerva Sarellano, an LBLA alumnus, invited us to join 15+ organizations and businesses in speaking with South San Jose School District families. We are thankful to have supporters like Minerva include us in community empowerment events.🧡

HFSV held its annual in-person board meeting last night, where our team and the Board of Directors gathered to discuss the upcoming fiscal year! It was a great meeting recapping our success from last year and plans for the upcoming school year.😁

We met at Santa Clara University (thank you, Mike Wallace and Lorenzo Gamboa!), with a few joining over Zoom. Our team shared news of new partnerships, programs offered at more schools throughout the Valley, and new initiatives launching this fall.🚀

The first cohort of STEM Career Accelerator has ended, and we are already gearing up for the next one! Let's check in with our Career Accelerator alumni to see what they are up to👀

Arturo Milanes graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a B.S. in Computer Science💻 After that, he worked as an engineer for several years while always making time to volunteer with the Foundation. While on the job hunt🔎, Arturo joined Career Accelerator, where he learned about networking, personal branding, salary negotiation, and other tools to stand out in the workplace.

Upon completing Career Accelerator, Arturo earned a position as an Advanced Software Engineer at Aerospace!🚀 He told HFSV that this program gave him confidence and a better understanding of where he wants to go in his career.

Arturo is just one example of why we created the Harvest🌳 phase in our three-phase model: to aid LITSI alumni in advancing in their careers. Our Latinos in Technology Scholars (LITSIs) are out in the world of STEM following their dreams!🌟 But where are they now?

Daniel Ramos started at a community college, then went on to earn his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering🩺 at San Jose State University . Now, he is on his way to a Ph.D. program in Bioengineering at Stanford University where he will be conducting research on new cancer therapeutics 👏👏👏

A first-generation Latino and recipient of HFSV's Latinos in Technology Scholarship (LITSI), Daniel is finishing up his M.S. at Stanford and is giving back by mentoring the next generation of scholars:

"Because of the impact LITSI had on my own path, I am now proud to mentor community college students preparing to transfer and apply for the Latino in Tech Scholarship."

Meet Paul Lein, an incoming San Jose State University Computer Engineering student💻, who is a part of our new AI Digital Literacy program!

Paul told us that he joined this program to see how AI will influence his future💫, both academically and personally. He is just one of the many students learning the fundamentals of AI. Taught by our partners from Everyone On, students learn how to use various platforms, generate prompts, apply practical applications, and use AI design tools.
