Best Friends Mentoring Program At the Best Friends Mentoring Program, our mission is to connect youth to supportive mentors who guide, encourage, and empower.

We envision a world where every child’s potential is recognized and amplified by caring mentors in their community. The Best Friends Mentoring Program (BFMP) is one of the largest mentoring programs in North Dakota and matches screened and trained adult role models with youth seeking positive adult guidance and friendship. BFMP has two mentoring initiatives:

1. School-based mentoring matches adul

t volunteers ages 16+ with students at area elementary, junior high, and high schools to meet one-on-one during the school day.

2. Community-based mentoring matches adult volunteers ages 18+ with youth to meet one-on-one outside of school hours. In 2015, nearly 230 kids went through juvenile court in our community; nearly 100 were placed in out-of-home care and 147 "new kids in town" had to learn an entirely new language and culture. Who can kids in tough situations look to for extra support and guidance? If you were their mentor, they would look to you -- for advice, guidance, a listening ear, help with school work and most of all, to be their most trusted friend.

At Best Friends Mentoring Program, we believe that one caring relationship can change the trajectory of a young person's life. Through mentorship, youth gain confidence, discover their strengths, build meaningful connections, and learn that they are capable of achieving great things.

Whether it's helping with homework, shooting hoops, sharing a conversation, learning a new skill, or simply showing up consistently, mentors make a lasting impact.

Want to make a difference while helping create one of Dickinson's favorite Fourth of July traditions? We need amazing volunteers to help make Family Fun Day 2026 a success! 💚

Whether you can help with setup, activities, games, inflatables, concessions, cleanup, or simply lend a helping hand, your time helps create a fun, safe, and memorable day for local families while supporting youth mentoring in our community. Family Fun Day is one of Best Friends Mentoring Program's biggest annual events, bringing families together on July 4th at Dickinson State University.

Family Fun Day is one of Best Friends Mentoring Program's biggest events of the year, bringing hundreds of families together for a day of fun while supporting local youth mentoring programs.
