What does heaven sound like?

🎤 Meet Perry Columbus! Through music, storytelling, fashion, and performance, Perry Columbus explores survival, transformation, joy, and the beauty of becoming. His work reminds us that gathering is sacred, that self-expression can be armor, and that celebration is often how we make it through.

Join us Thursday, June 11, from 6–10 PM for LOVE@Nite: A Place Called Heaven. As we honor Detroit’s Black q***r legacy, we’re excited to welcome an artist whose work lives at the intersection of memory, healing, and liberation.

We were proud to support one of our valued community partners, Core City Neighborhoods Inc., by sharing their volunteer recruitment efforts and contributing a new mural created by our Community Outreach Coordinator, Habacuc, and his partner, Deja.

LOVE@Nite returns Thursday, June 11 with a very special installment: A Place Called Heaven ☁️🏳️‍🌈

Created in partnership with Detroit Narrative Agency, Heaven in Detroit, LGBT Detroit, and IceCreamDetroit, this month’s gathering honors over 30 years of Detroit’s Black q***r nightlife, storytelling, music, memory, and the spaces that continue to hold our community with care.
LOVE@Nite is The LOVE Building’s signature cultural gathering—and this edition invites guests into an evening rooted in joy, survival, chosen family, dance floors, and the sacredness of being together.

Expect an unforgettable night featuring:
🎧 Sounds by legendary community sound leader + former Woodward mainstay, DJ Tone
🎬 A cast conversation with voices featured in the film and the storytellers behind it
🏳️‍🌈 Reflections with LGBT Detroit on three decades of planning Detroit’s Black Pride

Since we started collecting submissions for our 4731 to The Love Building Archive, we have received an amazing amount of responses. We have been able to conduct interviews and record stories. We recognize this project has developed into something that has potential to be grander than we originally envisioned. With that being said, we are postponing this event to further develop the project and do justice to the story, thank you to everyone who has RSVP’d so far we will keep you updated.
