The Cultural Center, Wayne State University, College for Creative Studies, and the Detroit Medical Center are all part of this area. Midtown Detroit, Inc., a nonprofit community development organization that supports economic growth in Detroit's Midtown district. MDI’s initiatives are shaped by the collaboration of key community stakeholders and are supported by the many dedicated funders that recognize the importance of Midtown’s revitalization and its positive effect on the community. We are involved in over 30 collaborative projects and programs that address the challenges and opportunities of the greater Midtown Detroit community. Over the years, MDI has addressed and overcome barriers to growth taking on new initiatives that have significantly developed and improved the community. These changes have sparked tremendous growth and heightened visibility making the Midtown community a prime destination for visitors and residents.

🎨 This October, Detroit Artists Market welcomes a new exhibition from featured artist Miranda Kyle.

🌼 “Flowers Know What We Forgot” explores memory, identity and storytelling through Kyle’s layered watercolor paintings. As a watercolor painter and muralist, she often centers people of color in her work, drawing from personal experiences and the stories around her. Kyle’s paintings connect like fragments of memory, inviting viewers to look closer, consider shifting perspectives and perhaps recognize pieces of their own stories.

Step back into the Cass Corridor of the 1970s. 📸

Opening Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Galerie Camille, “The Corridor” brings together the work of Bruce Harkness, Roger Martin and Karl Wellman, who documented the people, places and culture of 1970s Detroit. The exhibit looks back at a neighborhood in transition and the creative community that helped shape its identity.

What a way to welcome fall! 🍂🌿

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for our Fall Harvest Garden Party at North Cass Community Garden! We loved spending the afternoon with neighbors and friends enjoying art, music, food and a beautiful fall day in the garden.

A special thank you to Rosemarine Textiles for leading our natural indigo dye workshop, Bit of Denim for sharing the art of sashiko stitching, and DJ Adriel Thornton for providing the soundtrack for the afternoon. 🎧 Yummy snacks provided by Washed Up Coffee, For The Love of Sugar, and JP Makes and Bakes.

From indigo dyeing and pumpkin decorating to stitching, dancing, snacks and time together in the garden, it was a wonderful way to kick off the season. 💚

And a big thank you to everyone who helped make the day possible—and to our community for continuing to show up for these special neighborhood spaces.

What parts of Detroit’s history matter most to you? 🏛️ The City of Detroit Planning & Development Department is creating a Citywide Historic Preservation Plan, and they want to hear from Detroiters about the places, buildings and stories that are important to them and how they can be protected and celebrated for years to come.

If you’re in Midtown or the surrounding neighborhoods, the first workshop will be held:

📅 Wednesday, Sept. 30 | 6 - 7:30 p.m.
📍 Williams Recreation Center - DPRD (8431 Rosa Parks Blvd., Detroit, MI)

The same workshop will be offered at three locations, so you can attend whichever date and location works best for you.
