Happy Earth Day 💚🌎

One of our favorite ways to connect with the earth is camping; and these past two weekends we gained over 20 new CLIC Leaders, who camped with us at Historic Fort Wayne - Detroit as apart of our CLIC training. After completing our Camping Leadership Immersion Course, these individuals, who come from youth serving organizations across the City of Detroit, have access to our gear library to take their youth camping!

Thank you to everyone that came out and participated in our training! We greatly appreciate it and look forward to seeing the places you go with the youth that you serve.

If you’re interested in joining next year’s training or learning more about the course in general, please visit the 2026 CLIC page on our website (linked in our bio) for more information!

This week we had a Yosemite Art Showcase to celebrate all of the art made during and inspired by our trip to Yosemite National Park! This showcase acted as a reunion of sorts, bringing together participants from both 2024 and 2025. It was so wonderful to have everyone in the same space to reminisce on our memories made in the valley and celebrate the creativity of the students who went on the trip. The showcase included a poetry reading, a presentation of a beautiful tapestry made by one of the participants, as well as a visual poem created by one of the students!

As apart of the showcase and as a reflection of our time spent in Gloryland, a zine was made by the incredibly talented filled with poems written by the students during the writing workshops that she facilitated on the trip. In addition, our phenomenal photographer friend , who facilitated a photography workshop during our trip last summer, came out from California to be apart of the showcase and gift some of his art to the participants.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our showcase and especially to and for all of the creativity, artistry, and mentorship that you offer to the students. We also want to thank the participants who contributed to the showcase, the zine, and those who came to spend time with us. We so appreciated seeing all of you and hearing you share what the trip meant to you.
A special thank you again to the Walters Family Foundation for helping to make this trip possible.

SOS Outreach Detroit is raising funds to bring students from Hamtramck High School and University Preparatory Academy High School to Crystal Mountain for a three-day ski and snowboard trip. For many of these students, this will be their first time experiencing northern Michigan.

This trip means much more than just skiing or snowboarding. It’s about opening doors and giving young people space to challenge themselves, build community, and foster belonging in the outdoors. Your support helps cover transportation, meals, and other trip expenses, so cost is never a barrier for our kids.

Huge shout out to , , and for making this experience possible!

In this one-hour class you will learn about rain gardens and how you can solve local water problems by installing one. Throughout the class we will cover how a rain garden works and how it is different from other gardens. We will also go over the environmental benefits a rain garden provides, the beauty it can flaunt, and the maintenance that a rain garden needs to thrive. This class is an introduction to a five-week course, Master Rain Gardener Class, that goes more in-depth and explains the process of installing a rain garden.

Detroit Outdoors is focused on providing meaningful outdoor experiences in nature for Detroit, Highland Park, and Hamtramck youth. We strive to connect them to their local, regional, state, and national parks by creating opportunities to engage with the outdoors that they may have never experienced. With your support we are able to increase access to the outdoors for these students by providing trips and activities for them to partake in, free of charge.

Your donation allows us to provide trips that appeal to youth who are just beginning their outdoor journey as well as those who are seeking a higher level of adventure. There is an opportunity for everyone to get involved via an access point that appeals to them.

To show our gratitude, anyone who donates (our donation page is linked in our bio) this Giving Tuesday will receive one of the photographs in the following slides, taken by a professional photographer from our time in Yosemite National Park. This gift is just a token of our appreciation for your help to advance our mission. Thank you for your continued support
