A look back at a great visit with Detroit Tigers legend Lance Parrish!

On September 8, Lance stopped by Detroit Public Safety Headquarters to meet members of the Detroit Police Department and get a behind-the-scenes look at the work being done to keep Detroit safe.

We are incredibly grateful to be one of the nonprofits selected by Penske Corporation to receive support from funds raised through the Detroit Grand Prix!

Last week, we had the opportunity to join Penske leaders for breakfast and accept a generous donation supporting DPSF’s work and Detroit’s first responders.

DPSF Board Member Letty Azar, Vice President of Community and Government Affairs at Penske Corporation, is pictured alongside Father Tim McCabe of the Pope Francis Center, another nonprofit supported by Penske, Patti Kukula, Executive Director Detroit Public Safety Foundation, and Carter Drewry, DPSF director of Administration, Grants, and Marketing.

A huge thank you to Penske Corporation for its continued generosity and for giving back to Detroit and the communities where they race. We are so grateful for your partnership and support!

Thank you to DPSF board members Russel Schomberger, Mike Bruggeman, Chief Todd Bettison and Executive Fire Commissioner Charles Simms, Visit Detroit, the Donors, Volunteers, and city of Detroit for the tremendous support of the first Detroit Congressional Medal of Honor Society Convention in Detroit during the 250th year of the United States of America. We honor those who have sacrificed and bravely fought for our freedom. President Abraham Lincoln signed the legislation for the first Congressional Medal of Honor. There are 3,536 individuals who have received the Medal beginning in March 1863. There are 109 Michigan residents who have received the medal with 2 persons receiving the rare honor of being a double recipients. Many DPD and DFD members are veterans of the Military and we salute them for their service to Detroit and the Nation.

What an incredible week in Detroit!

The Congressional Medal of Honor Society Convention officially wrapped up last night with the Valor & Velocity Gala, a special evening hosted by GM Defense celebrating courage, leadership, teamwork and service.

The night included an inspiring panel discussion featuring two Medal of Honor recipients alongside leaders from Penske and Hendrick Motorsports, including Bud Denker and Rick Hendrick, and ended with an incredible drone show.

A huge thank you to the committee and everyone who has worked tirelessly over the past two years to bring this convention to Detroit and make the week so special. We are grateful for the opportunity for the Detroit Public Safety Foundation to play a role in welcoming our nation’s Medal of Honor recipients to our city and helping make this remarkable week possible.

Thank you to our Medal of Honor recipients for your extraordinary service and sacrifice. It has truly been an honor to have you in Detroit!
