Join Mayor Sheffield for an afternoon of movement, wellness and community at her Inaugural Walk & Run for Wellness on Saturday, September 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lasky Recreation Center in Detroit.

This family-friendly celebration will bring residents together for a day focused on health, fitness and fun. Whether you’re ready to run, prefer to walk at your own pace or want to enjoy the wellness activities with your family, there will be something for everyone.

Participants can choose between a 2-Mile Run or 1-Mile Walk, with both routes beginning and ending at Lasky Recreation Center.

Families with little ones are also invited to take part in the RX Kids Baby Parade at 11:30 a.m. Bring your baby, stroller and family to help kick off the celebration and celebrate Detroit’s youngest residents.

Event Schedule

11 a.m. – Wellness Celebration Opens
11:30 a.m. – RX Kids Baby Parade
12 p.m. – 2-Mile Run & 1-Mile Walk Begin
12:30–2 p.m. – Wellness Celebration Continues
2 p.m. – Event Concludes

Good evening, DPSCD Staff and Families,

Due to expected high temperatures on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 and Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the District will implement a 3 Hour Early Release on both days.

Career Technical Education (CTE) afternoon classes are canceled on both days.

Decisions regarding after-school activities, athletics, and other extracurricular programming will be made by individual schools. Families should contact their school directly for information about those programs.

The early release applies to students and school-based staff only, and does not apply to Central Office staff.

Thank you for your cooperation and continued support of the district.
