We had a great board meeting with high energy today. It's really encouraging to see such quality human beings in one place bringing their best to serve this community. We are very excited for our 1st annual Derby Lions Club Golf Tournament. This is a great opportunity to put in a foursome and/or become a sponsor and promote your business or organization. Want to get plugged in to a great group? Send us a message for info on our next meeting! Don't forget...it's for the kids!

We received difficult news this week. A LION of the community for both Mulvane and Derby went to be with Jesus. Charles M Cadwell passed away on August 14th in C**n Rapids MN.
Charlie and his wife Nancy recently moved to be closer to their son and his family. He was a strong pillar in our club and a force of good in the world around him. He personally helped at least 5 Lions achieve Melvin Jones Fellowship awards. But more than that - he was quick with an email or a note to say how proud of us he was. If you knew him then I am confident at one point he either encouraged you or helped you learn something important. Please join us in prayer for his loved ones. Our club meeting today was Bussin! With that one sentence I have ruined this slang for all youth... I also had to google what it meant.
But indeed we had a great time. JAM PACKED.
Here is the run down.
1. Our first annual golf tournament "for the kids" is upcoming October 12th. Put a foursome together and join us for a fun time that benefits local youth in the areas of vision correction, food insecurity, diabetes, and pediatric cancer. Reach out to Brock Stuhlsatz Danae Kendrick Thomas Donnay or Kiel Mangus to get registered.
2. We approved two community gifts to assist Ronald McDonald House of Wichita and the McConnell AFB Military and Family Readiness group.
3. Our scholarship winner Jeana Jacobucci brought us Crumbl cookies and shared her upcoming plans for college with us. The future is bright for Derby KS with young adults like Jeana leading the way!
4. Brian Engelken of FosterAdopt Connect Wichita https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61565121520410 was with us today to share the mission of empowering and supporting youth and families in the Wichita Metro area. They have a variety of programs designed to help these families and kids navigate life as well as behavioral intervention to impact outcomes. Word is he is working on a unique fundraiser next year that sounds like a lot of fun! Additionally, they have a service "closet" called Sammys Window in partnership with Simply Hygiene that accepts donations of quality items! Check out the linked page to see how you can help.

Recently Thomas Donnay (the man, the myth, the legend) attended 2026 GPLLI (Great Plains Lions Leadership Institute). This was a multi day event in which he learned and networked with other Lions to further his impact to our Club and to this community. We are grateful for his leadership and commitment to growth! Congrats Tom! Lions Clubs International Foundation

We had our program meeting yesterday and we heard from a local legend Thomas Donnay. Tom is our Club Vice - President and is one of the most consistent and engaged folks we know. He shared with us the importance of being prepared to save a life. With his medical background he shared how a simple kit can save a life. You don't need extreme medical training to vastly impact the chance of someone surviving an emergency involving blood loss.

At our Club Board Meeting we had a great time reviewing and reflecting on our busy season with volunteering Challenge Games and The Lords Diner. In addition We think Smoke on the Plains BBQ & Music Fest was very well run and the weather was mitigated by forward thinking leadership! We ran the Beer tent again this year which has served as a great fundraiser for us to impact this community. We are looking ahead to our inaugural Golf Tournament this Fall and excited for how it will positively impact children in Derby.

We also inducted our 2026-2027 Board of Directors. We are excited to have Sean Smith lead us as Club President alongside Thomas Donnay as Vice-President. In addition Kendra Fernandez has stepped up in her first year of membership to act as our Club Treasurer. We feel fortunate to have her expertise and support! Brock Stuhlsatz will serve as Past President and LCIF Chair. Stephanie Johnson continues her faithful service as Club Secretary. Danae Kendrick will continue as Member Chair. She has been instrumental in helping us grow our club. Jean Epperson will continue her service as Program Chair. She is also affectionately know as the BBQ Beverage Boss for her tireless effort in service. Jonathan Marr - the one and the only will be our Tail Twister.

We want to extend a special note of gratitude to two Lions. Susan Thompson - you have kept our finances straight for many years. We are grateful for you. Brock Stuhlsatz - You have just completed your 3rd Presidency (or was it 4th!?) We are grateful for your selflessness and your leadership.

Kansas weather strikes again! Due to unseasonably cool temperatures and the potential for thunderstorms, tonight's Military Appreciation Night has been canceled.
We appreciate your understanding and look forward to honoring our military community at a future event. Stay safe, and keep an eye on our page for updates on upcoming activities.

We had a great time over the weekend helping set up and serve pizza for the Challenge Games celebration. Always impressed by the level of volunteerism needed to pull this event together. If you have not checked out the challenge games you should! We always leave this event with full hearts! Challenge Games https://www.challengegames.org/

Our fearless leader Brock Stuhlsatz coordinated with them and worked to gain volunteers from the club. Kiel Mangus brought his daughter and a friend who were very helpful and hard working. Kendra Fernandez is a new member this past year and has already accepted a board position and is an active volunteer! Anne Phillips, USD 260 Board of Education spent all day working at the Rotary Club of Derby, KS community garage sale and then showed up big for the club to help us at this celebration.
