Thank you to the Derby Informer for raising awareness about DEEDS. We still need more community advocates. The ask is small, just send messages of encouragement to a district staff person a couple of times per month. That’s all it takes. Sign up today!

A local program called DEEDS (Derby Embracing and Encouraging District Staff) is pairing up community members and teachers to provide support for staff in the Derby school district.

School is back in session tomorrow. If you would be willing to be an encourager to a Derby KS Schools staff person, sign up today! We are looking for community members who are willing to send words of encouragement to a staff person at a minimum twice per month, either by email or written mail.

Welcome to DEEDS (Derby Embracing and Encouraging District Staff). We are happy you are considering joining us. Our goal is to remind the USD260 staff of the broad community support for public education in Derby. This is especially important during the COVID pandemic because there are so many unique challenges facing the staff this year.
If you sign up to join our DEEDS team, you (the advocate) will be paired with a member of the district staff: teacher, administrator or support staff. We want you to send notes of encouragement either through e-mail or through the postal service. We have guidelines that we ask you to abide by so that this program is successful and sustainable.
Guidelines:
• In order that everyone is supported in a similar manner we ask that you commit to make contact at least 2 times each month from now until the end of the school year. If your circumstances change and you are no longer able to commit to that, then please contact us so that another advocate can be assigned to that staff member.
• We prefer you be paired with someone that isn’t at your child’s school to avoid any conflicts of interest. Please indicate in the notes which schools your student(s) attend and we’ll match you accordingly.
• The primary focus is one-on-one communication to offer encouragement. However, you may want to go further and send a small gift to show your appreciation for their situation. This is not a requirement to be an advocate. If you do send a gift, please remember this initiative isn’t intended to be a school supply drive. The intent is to focus on the person, not the classroom. You are free to send a small gift such as a coffee card or card wash, etc. But the gifts you send should never exceed $10 per month.
• When you sign up you will receive the name and e-mail of a staff member as well as the address of the building where they report. All mail should be sent to them at their place of employment.
