Attendees learned everyday signs and phrases, heard the presenter's story, and jumped into hands-on practice. DEAF AWARENESS MONTH

As we close out the month of September celebrating DEAF AWARENESS MONTH we wish to highlight our HOST for Field Trip Fridays - Fun, Educational Homeschool Field Trips

SELENA RUFFIN:

is a profoundly Deaf young adult who recently graduated from high school in 2025. She is passionate about educating others about Deaf culture and exploring its impact on communities. Selena is involved with Young Life, a Christian ministry, where she is part of a team working to develop and strengthen the Deaf community. Through Young Life, she has opportunities to share the language, serve others, and, most importantly, socialize and build relationships with young people.
Selena also loves volunteering in her local community, where she can express her love and appreciation for the culture and community she has grown up in throughout her life.
She has many interests and goals for her future, including acting, coaching, and interpreting. Whatever path she chooses, Selena hopes to incorporate Deaf culture into her work and use her interests and experiences to make a positive impact on the Deaf community and the people around her.

Daymond Sands
a dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) professional with extensive experience as a freelance ASL consultant and tutor. He is passionate about empowering students and community members through accessible communication and language development. As the Program Director of a Deaf Theatre organization in Plano, Texas, he promotes Deaf culture, artistic expression, and community engagement through the performing arts. His work combines education, advocacy, and leadership to support the growth and visibility of the Deaf community. Through his diverse roles, Daymond continues to make a meaningful impact by fostering inclusivity, cultural awareness, and lifelong learning.
