Some adoption posts hit a little differently… and Sparrow’s is one of them. ❤️
Sparrow started life fighting.
He and his littermates were found after being thrown into a dumpster at only days old. All four babies struggled medically from the beginning, and heartbreakingly, only two survived.
For a long time, we weren’t even sure Sparrow would be one of them.
His health was so unpredictable that our veterinarians had not yet felt comfortable clearing him for vaccines. Every good day felt like a blessing, and every setback was terrifying. We consulted veterinarians, pursued diagnostics, and even had veterinary pathologists involved — but despite everyone’s best efforts, no one could give us a definite explanation for why these babies struggled so much.
So we continued doing everything we could to keep Sparrow healthy, safe, and moving forward.
Then something happened that none of us expected.
One of our puppies, who had been in our care for months and had received every vaccine exactly as scheduled, somehow contracted parvo.
We knew his vaccine history without question. We had personally made sure he received every dose like clockwork. Our cleaning, quarantine, and disease-prevention protocols were being followed carefully and consistently.
And yet, somehow, it happened.
We were just as shocked as everyone else. Our veterinarians were surprised as well, and because the circumstances were so unusual, confirmation testing was sent to the laboratory.
Unfortunately, before we even knew that puppy was infected, Sparrow had already been exposed.
That was terrifying.
This wasn’t a puppy who had simply been “missed” for vaccines. Sparrow had been medically fragile for most of his life, and vaccination had been delayed under veterinary guidance until his little body was healthy enough.
We immediately quarantined him and consulted multiple veterinarians about what our next steps should be.
And then something happened that was both beautiful and terrifying at the same time…
During quarantine, Sparrow began to blossom.
He was eating, playing, growing, and acting healthier than we had ever seen him. For the first time, he looked and felt like a normal, happy, thriving puppy.
It was beautiful to watch.
But it was also terrifying, because we knew what he had been exposed to. We knew parvo could still be coming, and every amazing day with him came with this awful feeling in the back of our minds that it might only be a matter of time before he got sick.
Then one night, he just wasn’t quite himself.
He seemed a little dumpy, and that big growing-puppy appetite suddenly wasn’t there.
We had already discussed this exact scenario with our veterinarians. Because early parvo symptoms can appear before a test becomes positive, and because Sparrow had a known direct exposure, everyone agreed that waiting for him to become severely ill was not a risk worth taking.
So at the very first sign of decline, Sparrow received the parvo monoclonal antibody.
And by the next morning…
our boy was bouncing back. 🥹❤️
Sparrow survived being discarded in a dumpster as a newborn.
He survived months of unexplained illness.
He survived losing half of his litter.
And when one more enormous obstacle was thrown his way…
he survived that too.
His name could not fit him any better.
A sparrow may be small, but it is resilient.
And our Sparrow is absolutely a survivor. 🐦❤️
After everything this little boy has fought through, we finally get to share the update we hoped he would someday have…
SPARROW HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER FAMILY!!! 🏡🎉
He has a bright future ahead of him with a family who absolutely adores him, and we cannot think of anyone more deserving.
Congratulations, Sparrow. ❤️
We love you so much, sweet boy.
You’ve spent enough of your life fighting. Now go live your BEST one. 🐾
