❤️💙 🎉 WELCOME TO THE CASA FAMILY! 🎉 ❤️💙

Yesterday was a very special day for CASA of Val Verde County as we had the honor and pleasure of celebrating the swearing-in of three of our newest CASA Advocates: Cecilia, Mary, and Biss! 👏🎉

The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by the Honorable Judge Sergio Gonzalez, in the presence of our Executive Director, Ana Moreno, our Volunteer Supervisor, Dr. Alma Mota, members of our Board of Directors, and the friends and families of our newly sworn-in advocates.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Judge Sergio Gonzalez for his continued support of our CASA program and for always taking the time to share meaningful words of encouragement with our advocates. His message serves as an important reminder of the critical role CASA Advocates play in the child welfare judicial process, ensuring that the court has valuable information and insight to make informed decisions in the best interests of the children we serve. ⚖️❤️

Following the ceremony, we gathered at the CASA office for a small reception, where we enjoyed a delicious meal, wonderful company, and the opportunity to celebrate this incredible milestone together! 🎊

Your willingness to dedicate your time, compassion, and commitment to children in foster care is truly admirable. As CASA Advocates, you are the boots on the ground, the eyes and ears of the court, and most importantly, a VOICE for children who need someone to stand up for them. ❤️

The work you are about to embark on is not always easy, but it is incredibly meaningful. Your advocacy, dedication, and presence can make a lasting difference in a child's life during some of their most challenging moments.

🎉💙 EXCITING NEWS FOR CASA OF VAL VERDE COUNTY! 💙🎉

We are incredibly honored and grateful to announce that CASA of Val Verde County has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the AEP Texas Foundation, an American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation! 🎉

The AEP Foundation continues to make a meaningful difference by investing in nonprofit organizations and initiatives that strengthen communities, create opportunities, and build brighter futures across Texas. We are truly blessed to be among the organizations selected to receive this generous support!

💙 What does this mean for CASA and the children we serve?

Contributions like this are essential to sustaining our mission and ensuring that children in the foster care system have a dedicated voice advocating for their best interests.

This funding will help us continue providing critical advocacy services, strengthen our program operations, and equip our volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates with the training, resources, and support they need to effectively represent children navigating the foster care system.

♥️💙 MEET OUR BOARD | GRANT WEILAND 💙♥️

Meet Grant Weiland, a member of CASA of Val Verde County’s FY27 Board of Directors!

Grant serves professionally as Chief Operations Officer of Border Federal Credit Union and has built his career around leadership, service, and the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People.” He is proud to call the Del Rio and Val Verde County community home and believes strongly in giving back to the community that he serves.

When asked what inspired him to join the CASA Board, Grant shared:

“I wanted to serve on the CASA of Val Verde County Board because I believe leadership comes with a responsibility to give back to the community. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with people and families from all walks of life, and I’ve seen how much of a difference it can make when someone knows they have a person in their corner.

CASA’s mission is especially meaningful because children in foster care are often navigating circumstances and decisions they had no control over. Having a CASA advocate gives a child something incredibly important during that uncertainty, a consistent person who listens to them, speaks up for their best interests, and makes sure their voice is not lost in the process.

One thing I’d like our community to know about me is that service is a big part of how I define leadership. Whether it is through my work at Border Federal Credit Union or organizations like CASA, I want to use the experience and opportunities I’ve been given to help make Val Verde County stronger. Serving on this Board is another opportunity to invest in our community and, most importantly, in its children.”

As we continue our Meet Our Board series, we are excited to welcome one of the newest members of the CASA of Val Verde County Board of Directors — Alejandra Palacio!

Alejandra joins our Board this term, bringing with her a heart for service, a passion for our community, and a strong commitment to ensuring that children have a voice.

As a mother, Alejandra has an even deeper appreciation for how important it is for children to feel safe, loved, supported, and heard. That perspective inspired her to become involved with CASA and use her time and voice to help make a difference for children who may be experiencing some of the most difficult and uncertain moments of their lives.

For Alejandra, CASA means making sure children are never overlooked during such an important chapter of their lives. She believes every child deserves to be listened to, cared for, and advocated for. Having a CASA advocate can provide children with consistency and support while helping ensure that their individual needs, voices, and best interests remain a priority throughout their case.

Alejandra is also a local business owner who believes that everyone has something meaningful they can give back to their community. Now, as a CASA board member, she is grateful for another opportunity to serve Val Verde County and contribute to a mission that can have a lasting impact on children and families.

Meet Jimie Glee Murdoch, a member of CASA of Val Verde County’s FY27 Board of Directors!

A Del Rio native, Jimie is passionate about giving back and believes that involvement in a close-knit community like Val Verde County can make a meaningful difference. Her commitment to service, leadership experience, and background in community outreach inspired her to support CASA’s mission and help strengthen the community she calls home.

For Jimie, CASA’s mission is about making sure every child has someone in their corner during an uncertain and difficult time. She believes every child deserves to feel heard, supported, and cared for, and that a CASA advocate can provide consistency, speak up for a child’s best interests, and help ensure their individual needs are never overlooked.

After spending some time away from Del Rio, Jimie chose to return home and become involved in the community again. Whether volunteering at local events, supporting community organizations, or serving professionally, she values building meaningful connections and finding ways to make a positive impact.

❤️ Strong Leadership. Stronger Advocacy. ❤️

Last week, our CASA of Val Verde County Board of Directors for the new term had the opportunity to participate in their annual Board Orientation & Training hosted by Texas CASA.

During the training, our returning and newly appointed Board members learned more about the National CASA/GAL Association and Texas CASA, as well as their important roles and responsibilities in the governance and oversight of our local program. The training covered Texas CASA standards and compliance requirements, financial and budget responsibilities, applicable laws and policies, strategic planning, and the important role our Board plays in supporting and advancing the CASA mission.

Our Board of Directors is an essential part of ensuring that CASA of Val Verde County remains strong, accountable, and focused on providing the highest quality advocacy and services to the children we serve. With the knowledge and resources gained through this training, our Board is ready to work together, strategize, and continue building a strong foundation for the growth and future of our program.

❤️💙 MEET OUR BOARD | ALYSANDRA 💙❤️

As we continue our Meet Our Board series, we are excited to introduce another dedicated individual who brings her personal experiences, passion, and heart for children to the CASA of Val Verde County Board of Directors.

Meet Alysandra (Aly) — wife, mom of two, college student, small business owner, and someone who somehow always manages to have about 47 things going on at once!

Alysandra’s connection to CASA is deeply personal. After fostering a sibling group, she experienced firsthand just how overwhelming and complex the child welfare system can be. Through that experience, she also saw the tremendous importance of children having someone in their corner who is consistent, dependable, and willing to speak up for them.

Her experience as a foster parent changed the way she viewed advocacy and strengthened her belief that every child deserves to feel seen, heard, safe, and supported, especially during some of the most difficult and uncertain moments of their lives.

Being involved with CASA of Val Verde County has allowed Alysandra to turn that passion into action. For her, serving CASA means helping ensure that children in our community have a voice and someone advocating for their best interests throughout their journey.

Outside of CASA, you can usually find Alysandra chasing her kids, working on school, sewing something, volunteering somewhere, or convincing herself that she can absolutely fit one more thing into her already busy schedule! ❤️

We are grateful to have Alysandra’s unique perspective, compassion, and heart for children on the CASA of Val Verde County Board of Directors. Her story reminds us that our individual experiences can inspire us to step forward, serve, and make a difference in the lives of children in our community.

❤️💙 PROUD MOMENT FOR CASA OF VAL VERDE COUNTY! 💙❤️

CASA of Val Verde County is incredibly proud of our Executive Director, Ana Moreno, who had the honor of serving as a guest speaker at the 2026 Women Empowerment Rise Up Conference hosted by Money Concepts! ✨

Ana shared her personal journey of leadership, resilience, and the importance of women empowering other women under a message that has guided much of her leadership:

“Step Forward. Keep Going. Bring Someone With You.”

We are especially proud to share that Ana was surprised with the Footprint Award, recognizing a woman who leaves a meaningful footprint in her community through leadership, inspiration, empowerment, and helping others reach their full potential. 🏆❤️

During her time as Executive Director, Ana's leadership, determination, and passion for our mission have helped CASA of Val Verde County continue to grow, strengthen community partnerships, and expand the impact we can have for children in the child welfare system. She leads with heart and compassion while continuously encouraging those around our staff, advocates, board members, community partners, and fellow women leaders—to learn, grow, and use their voices.

✨️WOMEN RISE UP! | Annual Women’s Empowerment Event ✨

CASA of Val Verde County is excited to invite our community to the Annual Women’s Empowerment – Women Rise Up event on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Del Rio Civic Center!

We are especially proud to share that CASA of Val Verde County Executive Director Ana Moreno will be one of this year’s featured speakers, sharing a message centered on leadership, women’s empowerment, resilience, and the importance of women supporting and inspiring one another. 💜

For years, this annual event has created a space for women in our community to connect, network, encourage one another, share experiences, and celebrate the strength and leadership women bring to our families, workplaces, organizations, and community.
We encourage everyone to come out, connect with other community members, support local vendors, and be part of an afternoon dedicated to empowering women to RISE UP, lead with purpose, and inspire the next generation of women leaders. 🌟
