While we are deeply grateful that the Transgender Day of Remembrance book display has been restored at the Val Verde County Library , this outcome was only possible because so many community members stood up and spoke out. Their courage and willingness to advocate for inclusivity and intellectual freedom is a powerful reminder of the values our library is meant to uphold.

Even with this positive result, the incident that led to the display’s removal cannot be overlooked. The pressure exerted by local officials to suppress the display reflects a troubling misuse of authority and an attempt at government-directed censorship. The heartfelt support from our community shows who we are—but it also underscores the importance of ensuring that our public institutions remain free from political or personal interference.

With deep gratitude for everyone who rallied in support and joined us at our community meeting tonight, we remain committed to seeking accountability and safeguards so that no public official can silence or marginalize protected expression in the future.
