Karma for Cara

Karma for Cara K4C awards grants to youth-led service projects, recognizes unsung heroes & supports kids w/cancer. Tragically, Cara passed away in December 2012.

Karma for Cara Foundation was founded by 21-year-old Cara Becker and her family while she was being treated for leukemia in October of 2012. A champion of community service early in her brief life, Cara saw a tremendous need to support other patients who were going through the same challenging treatment as she was. But her dream lives on through the vision and works of the foundation. Her family &

friends remain inspired by Cara's example of service and interest in helping others, even when she herself was in need of help.

Happy ! 🚀

To inspire the next generation of NASA engineers, scientists & astronauts, K4C microgrant recipient & NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration ASTRO CAMP Community Partner Angel (18, TN) used her award to conduct free monthly STEM workshops at the local science museum, Discovery Center at Murfree Spring 👩‍🚀

Through her microgrant project, Angel sought to expand access & understanding in STEM to young children which would help them discover their passion for science through hands-on activities that tackle challenges and find creative answers to open-ended scientific questions🔭

Really great story about a K4C microgrant recipient, Ryan. He's incorporated our children's book, Cara Cookie Volunteers, into his program as well!

Ryan Tonkovich and his sister started a reading program to help kids build literacy skills during the COVID pandemic, but it’s become so much more.

Bees are so important! 🐝 Without them, most terrestrial ecosystems would struggle to survive!

Some of of our microgrant recipients have made bees a priority: their projects have included beekeeping, hive-building & bee education.

K4C's inspiration & namesake, Cara, chose to help others, even when she was in need of help herself.

Her struggles never prevented her from living greatly, and during the hardest of times, her spirit grew🧡

Our family believes the future of our nation and our world depends on citizen leaders who, beginning at a young age, develop compassion and empathy as life skills. Karma for Cara is our way of ensuring more young people have the chance to do just that.
