Who’s Behind Dedham’s Beloved Community Events?

Do you ever wonder who is behind the free summer concerts at the Endicott Estate, the Annual Craft Fair held each fall at the Dedham Middle School for more than 40 years, or the popular Breakfast with Santa every December? The answer is the Dedham Junior Women’s Club (DJWC).
Founded locally in 1979 under the Junior Membership of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, the Dedham Junior Women’s Club is a nonprofit organization made up of intergenerational women from all walks of life, united by a shared commitment to giving back to the community.
DJWC provides financial support to Dedham schools and local organizations and encourages hands-on volunteerism in a variety of meaningful ways. Members participate in at least one committee aligned with their interests and talents, including Arts and Culture, Arts at Endicott, Civic Engagement and Outreach, Communications, Education and Libraries, Environment, Health and Wellness, Membership, and Socials and Programs. There truly is a place for everyone.
Funds raised by the club are reinvested directly into the community, supporting organizations such as the Dedham Youth Commission and the Dedham Food Pantry. Several annual scholarships are awarded to high school seniors going on to college, and to women pursuing a career in nursing or returning to higher education. Of special note is DJWC’s Empowerment Grant, which helps local women enhance their skills, knowledge, and opportunities through educational pursuits. Grants may be used for college coursework, seminars, licensing programs, and certification courses. Applications are considered for all monetary amounts and are available at www.djwc.org.
The community is invited to attend DJWC’s general meetings, held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from September through May at 7:00 p.m. at the Endicott Estate. Membership is open to all women, regardless of town of residence.
The next meeting will be held on January 27, featuring light refreshments, a brief business meeting, an overview of each committee, and time to socialize with members. For more information, email [email protected]—or simply come by and see what DJWC is all about.

Several local community organizations will receive financial assistance from the Dedham Junior Women’s Club this month. At last night’s general meeting of the Dedham Junior Women’s Club, the general membership voted on the following:

$500 in support of the Dedham Food Pantry which is undergoing a surge in clients.
$525 to purchase fifteen pies from Community Servings “Pie in the Sky” Fundraiser. Community Servings, based in Jamaica Plain, provides medically tailored meals for people who are home bound due to severe medical conditions, including those undergoing cancer treatment. Community Servings helps people throughout the state. The pies purchased will be donated back to the organization to be distributed to those in need.
$500 to Mother Brook Community Arts Center in Dedham to support a felting workshop for all that will be presented at their Open Studios on December 6th and 7th.
$250 to sponsor a holiday tree at the Mass. Horticultural Society’s Festival of Tree at Elm Bank. This is a fun-filled family event and popular fundraiser for Mass. Horticultural Society. The DJWC tree theme will be “Winter Wonderland.”
The Dedham Junior Women’s Club is able to support these organizations and others like them because of the money raised by their annual craft show. This year’s craft show will be Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Dedham Middle School, 70 Whiting Ave., Dedham.

This year all the crafters’ spots are rented and there will be close to ninety juried crafters at the event. If you are determined to shop locally this holiday season, then the DJWC Craft Show is the place to start your holiday shopping. Luncheon will also be served in the cafeteria starting at 11:00 am. Shoppers can also take chances to win a donated item from the show’s crafters at the Crafters Raffle Table.

Admission is $5.00 per person with children under 12 years of age free.
