Employee survey feedback has earned Heritage a 2026 Work-Life Flexibility award from Top Workplaces. As we have always kept mental health and well-being a priority in the services we provide, it is more important than ever that we extend that focus to those providing the services, our employees. One very popular benefit Heritage offers is called Wellness Days. Every full-time employee gets a set day every other week as a paid day off! Wellness Days are provided so that employees can take extra time to take care of their mental and physical health, without worrying about taking time off work.

Our Mobile Crisis Response (MCR) team is on the go out in the community 24/7! We weren't able to get a photo of the team in one place at one time, so we wanted to share a few impacts of their hard work and devoted care instead. Just in April of 2026, the MCR team provided 430 services to 195 unique individuals. Here are a couple quotes from individuals who received care from our Mobile Crisis Response team: "Heritage is in my circle. I know they will always care about what's going on with me" and "There were so many things, I couldn't describe them all. I can now." Thank you, MCR team!

We are proud to be a workplace with a majority of our leadership roles filled by women. Our most recent employee survey led Heritage to being awarded with a Top Women-Led Workplace award. Our organization would not be able to provide the services it does everyday without the dedication and care of so many women on our teams here at Heritage.

Congratulations to Bri May, this month's Employee Spotlight!

Q: How long have you been with the company?
A: I have been with Heritage for a year in July.

Q: What is your favorite part of working at HBHC?
A: It's the fact that Heritage has the same morals and values that I do. It's so rare to find that in a company.

Q: What's one thing people don't know about you that they would be surprised to find out?
A: I have been out of the country, however have never been on a plane.

Q: What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
A: Don't miss out on things because you are scared of failure or what people think. Be your true authentic self. Those who truly matter will be there and accept you for who you are.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
A: The ability to Teleport! I love to travel but hate long drives.

Q: What are your goals for the next few months/years?
A: My biggest goal is to finish school to become a therapist. I truly have such a strong passion for helping people and I want to continue in my career here at Heritage.

Q: What’s one thing that surprised you about your current role?
A: Honestly, just how much I love it. This is my first job in the mental health field and it is by far the best and most rewarding job I have ever had.

Q: What are some of your favorite music genres/artists to listen to?
A: I love hip-hop music. My all time favorite artist is Russ. He is completely independent and has honestly gotten me through some pretty dark times.

Q: What, if anything, are you currently watching? Or reading?
A: Me and my boyfriend are currently watching the Harry Potter series in order as neither of us has every done that. Additionally, I am currently reading "Tiny Humans, Big Emotions".

Q: What’s one thing on your bucket list?
A: An Alaskan cruise! I have heard that it is so beautiful!

We still have some signs available! Make sure to reach out if you would like some to promote positive mental health this May.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Heritage is launching the Green Up for Mental Health campaign focused on Ending the Stigma.

When individuals experience mental health challenges, it is essential that they feel supported and empowered to seek help. This campaign aims to promote that message and foster a more open and supportive community.

đź’šSince green is the color for mental health awareness, we also encourage you - along with your friends, family, coworkers - to choose a day in May to wear green and share your support on social media.

Interested in showing your support in a bigger way? We’re offering FREE yard signs for your home or business!

Businesses: Please include your delivery location
Individuals: We’ll coordinate a pickup time

Signs are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Known for her roles in Beetlejuice, Heathers, and most recently Stranger Things, Winona Ryder has struggled with mental health for years. At a young age, she spoke out about her anxiety and depression and has been open about many of her struggles through the years. Ryder is often seen as fragile and highly sensitive due to her openness to discussing her struggles. "And I am supersensitive, and I don’t think that that’s a bad thing," said Ryder. "To do what I do, I have to remain open."

In 2001, she was caught shoplifting at a department store. A few months prior to the event, she had broken an arm leading a doctor to prescribe her various painkillers. The confusion and depression brought on by the use of medications like oxycodone is what led to her shoplifting, but this event also helped her realize they had become a problem. "...I was taking it at first to get through the pain. And then there was this weird point when you don’t know if you are in pain, but you’re taking it.”

While not necessarily considered an advocate for mental health, she has been noted on being glad she spoke out when she was young. "Since I’ve talked about my anxiety, I’ve gotten a really good response. Young women were grateful to learn that it happens to everybody, even to people they consider perfect people with perfect lives.”
