Heartland CASA

Heartland CASA advocates for the best interest of abused and neglected children who are in the custody of the state of Illinois and under the protection of the Macon, DeWitt, Christian, and Moultrie County courts. Macon County CASA recruits, trains, and supports volunteers from the community who, as sworn officers of the court, advocate for abused and neglected children in the Macon & DeWitt County juvenile court systems.

Have a heart for children and want to make a difference?
Maybe you’ve heard about Heartland CASA and wondered what serving as a volunteer advocate actually looks like, but heard the words “foster care” and immediately felt intimidated.

The truth is, children who have experienced abuse and neglect need more than just a place to stay - they need someone to show up, make sure they are seen, heard, and not lost in an overburdened system - that’s where CASA comes in.

Showing up doesn’t have to mean becoming a foster parent. Sometimes it simply means being a consistent presence for a child who needs someone in their corner — a CASA.

Join Heartland CASA for a 30-minute virtual CASA 101 Information Session to learn more about what CASA volunteers do, how they advocate for local children in foster care throughout Macon, DeWitt, Christian, and Moultrie Counties, and how showing up really matters.

We’ll be offering multiple virtual sessions, so check out the upcoming webinars and join the one that works best for you -
can’t make a session? Call and talk to our Recruitment Manager and Trainer, Lori McDaniel — she’ll be happy to answer your questions.

May the Fourth be with you… and with a child who needs someone in their corner.

Right now, hundreds of local children in foster care are facing challenges no child should have to navigate alone. They need someone steady—someone who shows up, speaks up, and stands by them. That someone could be you.

This May, during Foster Care Awareness Month, step into something bigger than yourself—because every child deserves someone who shows up - no special powers required - just a willing heart and the desire to make a difference.

“The children who come before this court do not need perfection. They need people who will show up, pay attention, ask questions, and keep their well-being at the center of the process.” — Judge Brad Paisley

Today marks a truly monumental step forward with the swearing-in of the first volunteer advocate class through Heartland CASA in Christian County. Moments like this remind us what’s possible when a community leads with heart, compassion, and a deep commitment to its children.

This is progress worth celebrating. It’s the result of people who care enough to show up and do the work for those who need it most.

At the same time, we know there is still so much more to be done. Every child deserves someone in their corner, and we’re not there yet. But today, we pause to recognize how far we’ve come and to say thank you to everyone who has helped bring this vision to life.

If you’ve ever felt called to be a voice for a child, now is the time. Two classes will be starting in Taylorville this May. You can learn more and sign up at www.iheartcasa.org.

We are grateful for this community, proud of this moment, and motivated for what comes next.
