Thanks to those who joined us for Flag Day on Sunday June 14th.

Post 348 would especially like to thank Boy Scout Troops 35 & 155 for their support and assistance. We'd also like to thank the Village of DeForest for helping us promote the event.

It was a beautiful day! Our Brat Bust on Saturday was a success! Thanks to everyone who turned out to partake in our "cookout", and thanks to our comrades who made it happen!

And the results are in!

DeForest Post 348's nominee for American Legion Educator of the Year, Charlene Ulichny Chopin, has been selected as the Wisconsin Department (State) winner. Charlene was nominated by Post 348 and also won the District 3 competition on her way to State. Let's hope she goes all the way (National Champion)!

Legion Post 348 comrade Ed Busse has joined Post Everlasting. We will be honoring Ed with a "Draping the Charter" ceremony at our monthly meeting on Tuesday June 16th. Post 348 is standing by to honor Ed with any Legion service oriented requests from his family.

Rest in Peace Ed.

Edward “Ed” Busse, age 89, passed away on Saturday, June 6, at University Wisconsin Hospital due to complications from a brain hemorrhage. He was born on August 10, 1936, to Melvin and Mae (Fortney) Busse in Madison, WI.

Flag Day is Sunday June 14th.

American Legion Post 348 and Boy Scout Troops 35 & 155 will host a flag retirement ceremony at DeForest Veterans Memorial Park (209 North Main St.), 6:30 PM.

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.

Everyone is welcome to attend (bring a lawn chair if you’d like to sit). You may also bring any American flags that are worn and need to be properly and respectfully retired. Legion Post 348 will collect your flags for proper disposal. The formal ceremony will pay respect to all the flags collected.

American Legion Post 348 will host its annual “Brat Bust” on Saturday June 13th, 10:00 AM – 2:30 PM, at the North end of the DeForest Pick ‘N Save parking lot. Bratwurst, hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, water and soda will be available for purchase. Proceeds will support American Legion community support activities such as youth scholarships, local veterans support, and other community

service requests.

Honoring Gary Lay - another of our members who has moved on to Post Everlasting. Rest In Peace Gary.

Gary Lee Lay, 79, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, at home in DeForest, Wi, surrounded by the love of his family.

Thanks to everyone who came out for our Memorial Day observance. We had a very good crowd and the weather was perfect. A special thanks to our keynote speaker, Laura Colbert, for making the trip to DeForest. Laura's address was perfect for our theme of women in the military.
